Town Planners | Cornwall & Devon

Location: Bodmin, Cornwall | Full-Time | Permanent

Penguin Recruitment is proud to be working with a growing and design-led SME housebuilder as they look to expand their Planning team with the addition of two experienced Planners. With a reputation for delivering high-quality, thoughtfully designed homes across Cornwall and Devon, this is a fantastic opportunity to influence the future of residential development in one of the UK’s most sought-after regions.

This is a hands-on planning role where you’ll be responsible for managing the full planning lifecycle-from consultation to consent. You’ll work closely with colleagues across Land, Technical, Commercial, Build, and Sales to deliver commercially sound consents that reflect both design excellence and local character.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and implement planning strategies across a varied portfolio of development sites
  • Manage all stages of the planning process including pre-apps, submissions, conditions, and appeals
  • Support site appraisals and land acquisition activity
  • Engage with local authorities, stakeholders, and communities to build trusted relationships
  • Manage external consultants and stay on top of evolving policy and legislation
  • Represent the business at planning committees and public consultations
Qualifications
  • Degree in Town Planning (or related); ideally MRTPI

  • Strong experience in both private and public sector planning

  • Proven track record in securing residential consents

  • Commercial awareness and excellent stakeholder management skills

  • Full UK driving licence – site travel across Devon and Cornwall will be frequent

    Additional assets include:

    • Familiarity with planning software or GIS
    • Knowledge of the Cornwall and Devon planning landscape
    • An established network of local contacts
