Play a Key Role in Sustainable Infrastructure with Anglian Water

Do you have a passion for planning and want to shape projects that matter? Are you ready to provide expert planning advice and support the delivery of sustainable infrastructure across the region? If so, this is your opportunity to join a forward-thinking team that values innovation, collaboration, and the environment.

We’re looking for a Town & Country Planner to join the @One Alliance within our Enabling Team. In this role, you’ll support the successful delivery of infrastructure schemes by providing practical, timely planning advice and managing key planning submissions.

What You’ll Be Doing

Reporting to the Enabling Manager and working alongside Senior and Principal Planners, you’ll help to ensure that our projects are delivered with robust planning support, minimal environmental impact, and full regulatory compliance.

Your responsibilities will include:

Advising project teams on planning requirements and maximising use of Anglian Water’s permitted development rights

Preparing and submitting Town & Country Planning applications

Assisting in the preparation of planning applications requiring Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA)

Preparing and submitting EIA screening opinions and supporting Senior Planners on more complex submissions

Conducting pre-application consultation with local planning authorities and key stakeholders

Building positive relationships with planning authorities and other statutory consultees

Supporting agreement of planning conditions and contributing to Section 106 negotiations where required

Working closely with engineers and construction teams to help deliver schemes on time and on budget

Promoting the use of digital tools to drive efficiency and innovation across the Enabling Team and planning process

Collaborating with other Planners to manage workload and meet planning targets

Keeping up to date with changes in planning and environmental legislation

About You

You’re a motivated and detail-focused planner who is passionate about enabling projects through sound, practical planning advice. You work well across teams and can manage competing priorities with a calm and solution-focused approach.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

A degree in a relevant subject
Membership of the RTPI or eligibility to join
A proven understanding of the Town & Country Planning system, either through professional experience, academic study, or personal projects
Previous experience in a Town & Country Planning role
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to record and write clear, detailed technical reports
Strong organisational and analytical skills
Confidence working flexibly across multiple projects and deadlines
Experience using GIS packages such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or MapInfo (desirable)
