This is a brilliant and exciting opportunity for experienced short-form VT Directors.
We are seeking experienced Shooting Directors who are ready to hit the ground running to join our Talent Pool and be a part of The One Show family working across our Children in Need One Show campaign. You will be involved in end-to-end production, producing and directing your own films from initial idea conception through to the final edited package, working closely with the Senior film team, and supported by Production Management and more junior Editorial team members. You will need to have challenge and appeal VT experience.
The Talent Pool serves as a database of Directors who we feel have the necessary skills and experience to work with us, and forms a group of candidates that we will consider as a priority should a short-term (non-permanent) Director position become vacant.

Main Responsibilities
- This role involves working across the topical content on The One Show and the Children in Need challenge squad VTs for the appeals.
- Suggest, develop, and research appropriate ideas and present these to the Executive Producer/line manager for feedback and review.
- Research accurately when producing original content in keeping with an editorial brief.
- Source contributors, experts, and talent, as required, and maintain professional communication with them.
- Plan, script, and storyboard shoots to fast turnaround deadlines, keeping audiences at the heart of everything you create.
- Work collaboratively as part of a strong and effective team, demonstrating judgment on referring up to more senior members when needed.
- Collaborate with the Production Management team in planning shoots and help manage last-minute changes.
- Manage a team of a Shooting Researcher and Runner on shoots, ensuring schedules are adhered to and health and safety are maintained.
- Create appropriate risk assessments for each film, considering specific shoot requirements.
- Edit and produce films to fast turnaround deadlines, communicating archive or clearance needs quickly and accurately.
- Organize and prioritize tasks related to story finding and research materials.
- Assist in ensuring output complies with BBC Health and Safety policies.
Are You the Right Candidate?
- You should have at least 3 shooting director credits, preferably in short-form VT content.
- Previous experience working on appeal and challenge films is required.
- Self-shooting skills to broadcast standard.
- Thorough understanding of a range of broadcast-quality cameras, lighting, and sound.
- Ability to manage sound while shooting and light shoots as required.
- Extensive experience working with presenters and contributors, producing high-profile presenters on location.
- Proven ability to find strong storylines and contributors.
- Track record of pitching ideas that have been broadcast.
- Strong time management and organizational skills to deliver under tight deadlines.
- Understanding of copyright clearance, including archive footage, music, and stills.
- Creative problem-solving skills in fast-changing situations.
- Ability to work independently, use initiative, and exercise judgment.
- Proficiency with IT and emerging technologies and software.
- Good understanding of BBC editorial guidelines and compliance policies.
- Awareness of BBC’s diverse audiences and their needs, shaping creative output accordingly.
