Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Toolmaker / Die Technician or in a similar precision engineering role.

Responsibilities

  • Issue and inspect tools prior to production start-up.
  • Conduct first-off inspections following operating procedures.
  • Identify and report any tooling or production discrepancies.
  • Maintain, repair, and replace tooling components as needed.
  • Operate lathes, milling machines, grinders, and heat treatment equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety standards.

Skills

Reading and interpreting engineering drawings
Skilled in using milling machines
Proficient in lathes and surface grinding machinery

Hourly Rate: £16.70 per hour
Shifts: Day shift, Monday to Friday (37.5 hours per week)

Job Description

As a Toolmaker / Die Technician, you\'ll play a vital role in ensuring all tooling and dies are correctly issued, maintained, and in top condition for production. You will carry out inspections, perform precision machining, and support improvements across the tooling department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Issue and inspect tools prior to production start-up.
  • Conduct first-off inspections following operating procedures.
  • Identify and report any tooling or production discrepancies.
  • Maintain, repair, and replace tooling components as needed.
  • Operate lathes, milling machines, grinders, and heat treatment equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety standards and use of PPE.
  • Keep the tooling area clean and organised to 6S standards.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and quality initiatives.

This Toolmaker / Die Technician position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on engineering work, problem-solving, and precision craftsmanship in a structured manufacturing setting.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Previous experience as a Toolmaker / Die Technician or in a similar precision engineering role.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Skilled in using milling machines, lathes, and surface grinding machinery.
  • Knowledge of heat treatment processes.
  • Competence in measuring and inspection tools such as micrometers and gauges.
  • Awareness of ISO 9001 Quality Standards.
  • Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail.

Desirable:

  • Time-served apprenticeship or equivalent engineering qualification.
  • Experience with progression tooling and metrology.
  • Familiarity with cylindrical grinding techniques.
  • Flexible and proactive attitude, with an eye for continuous improvement.
