Job summary

Allscreens Nationwide Ltd in Redruth is seeking an experienced Precision Grinder / Toolmaker. You will craft, modify and maintain custom tools, jigs, fixtures and moulds using manual and CNC grinders to meet tight tolerances.

The role requires reading detailed drawings, interpreting CAD models, and using metrology tools to ensure parts meet spec. This permanent position offers a 30,000–35,000 GBP annual salary, 8:00–16:30, Monday to Friday, with on-site facilities and benefits.

Qualifications

• Apprenticeship in Toolmaking or related discipline preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in mechanical engineering.
• Ability to read complex drawings and CAD models.
• Proficiency with precision measurement and metrology.
• Experience with bench fitting using hand tools.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate grinding machines (surface, cylindrical, universal, tool & cutter).
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and CAD models.
• Use micrometres, vernier calipers, gauges, and CMM for inspection.
• Troubleshoot tooling breakdowns and repair dies/fixtures.
• Maintain a clean and safe workspace and perform routine equipment maintenance.

Redruth | £30,000 - £35,000 per year | 8 am - 4:30 pm | Monday - Friday | Permanent

Introduction

Acorn by Synergie is recruiting for an experienced Precision Grinder / Toolmaker based in Redruth.

As a Precision Grinder / Toolmaker, you will be responsible for crafting, modifying and maintaining the custom tools, jigs, fixtures and moulds used in production. You will operate advanced manual and CNC grinding machines to shape metal and alloys to extremely strict geometric tolerances, often within a few microns.

Key Duties:

• Set up and operate a variety of grinding machines, including surface, cylindrical, universal, and tool and cutter grinders, to shape raw materials.
• Read and interpret complex engineering drawings and 2D/3D CAD models to manufacture parts to precise specifications.
• Utilise precision measurement instruments such as micrometres, vernier callipers, gauges and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to ensure product conformity.
• Troubleshoot tooling breakdowns, repair dies and fixtures, and determine whether a tool can be fixed on the machine or requires removal to the toolroom.
• Perform routine maintenance on grinding equipment, dress grinding wheels, and maintain a clean and safe workspace.

Requirements:

• Strong ability to work to minute tolerances and meet critical geometrical tolerancing requirements.
• Understanding of various metals, alloys and material properties.
• Ability to use hand tools such as files and hacksaws for bench fitting and fine finishing.
• Ideally completed an apprenticeship in Toolmaking, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 1 year's experience in mechanical engineering.
