Job summary

An established metalwork engineering company in Wolverhampton is offering a Level 3 Tooling apprenticeship over a 37-month period. The apprentice will gain hands-on experience using various machines, performing maintenance, and complying with quality standards. A commitment to learning and basic machining knowledge is preferred. Training will occur at In-Comm Training Services in Aldridge, for 2.5 days weekly.

  • Basic knowledge of machining processes is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Check tool dimensions with precision measuring instruments.
  • Perform basic machine maintenance and tooling improvements.

Overview

Established in 1886, Jenks & Cattell Engineering have the prestige and expertise as one of the most established metalwork engineering companies in the UK. From manufacturing garden tools nearly 150 years ago, to manufacturing headlamp rims for the original 1959 Mini we have built a heritage to be proud of.

Day to Day Tasks
  • Using a combination of lathes, presses, grinders and cutting machines
  • Using precision measuring instruments like micrometres, gauges and coordinate measuring machines (CMM) to check the tool's dimensions
  • Some basic machine maintenance
  • Tool dismantling and diagnosis for repair
  • Tooling improvements
  • Preventive maintenance of tooling and of the shop's machinery
  • Complete tool reports and ordering of spare parts
  • Implement modifications; Fabrication of fixtures and spare parts for tooling
  • Maintain spare parts system
  • Maintain tooling standards and enhance control documentation
  • Interface with the new production tooling manager on new tooling
  • Comply with the quality and environment standards procedures and instructions

This is a Level 3 Tooling apprenticeship, delivered over a 37 month period.

The apprentice will attend the training centre, In-Comm Training Services in Aldridge, WS9 8UG, 2 and a half days per week for the first 14 months.

Monday to Thursday; 7.30am to 4pm. Friday; 7:30am to 12:30pm.
