Job summary

Proactive Global is seeking an experienced Toolmaker to join our established engineering and manufacturing business in the UK. You will design, manufacture and maintain tooling, working closely with engineering and production teams to deliver high-quality tooling solutions on time.

You will interpret engineering drawings, use 2D/3D CAD to develop tooling, and operate Wire EDM, CNC and conventional machines.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Toolmaker in engineering/manufacturing.
• Strong toolmaking and machining skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical information.
• Experience using 2D/3D CAD for tooling or engineering.
• Experience with Wire EDM, CNC and/or conventional machining equipment.
• Knowledge of tooling manufacture, testing, modification and maintenance.
• Experience working with jigs, fixtures and gauges is advantageous.
• Good measurement and inspection skills; data-driven decisions.

Responsibilities

• Design and manufacture tooling using 2D and 3D CAD software and associated systems.
• Manufacture, assemble and test tooling to meet technical requirements and deadlines.
• Design and manufacture jigs, fixtures and gauges to support manufacturing processes.
• Maintain, repair and modify production tooling to sustain capability.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure tooling suitability.
• Plan and coordinate tooling maintenance with manufacturing teams.
• Respond to unplanned tooling repairs and production needs.
• Operate Wire EDM, CNC and conventional machining equipment.
• Work with other Toolmakers to complete machining, tooling and repair tasks.
• Manage tooling manufacture workload with Toolroom management team.
• Support development and improvement of existing and new tooling.
• Track tooling modifications and identify performance improvements.
• Carry out part and tooling measurements to support decisions.
• Record production information and machine/setup times using systems.
• Support the transition of new tooling into production and resolve issues.

Position: Toolmaker

Proactive are currently recruiting for an experienced Toolmaker to join an established engineering and manufacturing business.

As a Toolmaker, you'll play a key role in ensuring tooling is produced and maintained to the required quality and timescales, supporting production and working closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to deliver effective tooling solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design and manufacture tooling using 2D and 3D CAD software and associated engineering systems
• Manufacture, assemble and test tooling in line with technical requirements and production deadlines
• Design and manufacture jigs, fixtures and gauges to support manufacturing processes
• Maintain, repair and modify production tooling to ensure continued manufacturing capability
• Work closely with engineering and production teams to ensure tooling is fit for purpose and meets operational requirements
• Plan and coordinate tooling maintenance activities alongside relevant manufacturing teams
• Respond to unplanned tooling repairs and production requirements where required
• Operate Toolroom machinery and equipment, including Wire EDM, CNC and conventional/manual machining equipment
• Work collaboratively with other Toolmakers to complete machining, tooling and repair requirements
• Manage tooling manufacture and workload priorities in conjunction with the Toolroom management team
• Support the development and improvement of existing and new tooling
• Track tooling modifications and identify opportunities to improve performance, reliability and efficiency
• Carry out part and tooling measurements to support tooling development and engineering decisions
• Record relevant production information, work completed, quantities and machine/set-up times using appropriate systems
• Work closely with engineering and manufacturing teams during the development, testing and introduction of new tooling
• Support the transition of new tooling into production and help resolve any issues identified during trials

Skills

• Proven experience working as a Toolmaker within an engineering or manufacturing environment
• Strong practical toolmaking and machining skills
• Experience manufacturing, maintaining and repairing production tooling
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical information
• Experience using 2D/3D CAD software for tooling or engineering applications
• Experience with Wire EDM, CNC and/or conventional machining equipment
• Strong understanding of tooling manufacture, testing, modification and maintenance
• Experience working with jigs, fixtures and gauges would be advantageous
• Good measurement and inspection skills with the ability to use data to support engineering decisions
