Job summary

Bennett and Game Recruitment are seeking an experienced Tool Maker to join their production engineering team in West Sussex. The hands-on role focuses on manufacturing specialist components using traditional toolroom techniques, with a strong emphasis on accuracy and quality.

Applicants should be time-served toolmakers with 2–3 years in a similar role, capable of manual milling, turning and surface grinding, and able to work independently within a busy workshop.

Responsibilities

• Manufacture components to engineering drawings and specs.
• Use manual milling, turning, surface grinding and bench fitting.

• Prioritise manufacturing requirements with production team.
• Modify components and assemblies as needed in workshop.
• Strip, assess and rebuild vehicle sub-assemblies when required.
• Operate additional machinery after training.
• Perform general workshop duties including deburring and finishing.
• Maintain records and keep a clean, safe workspace.
• Adhere to Health & Safety procedures.

Location: Liss, West Sussex
Salary: £16.00-£21.00 per hour, depending on experience
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am - 4:00pm
Contract: Full Time, Permanent

Bennett and Game Recruitment are a well-established and highly specialised automotive engineering business based in West Sussex, with a strong reputation within the luxury vehicle sector.

Due to continued growth, they are looking for an experienced Tool Maker to join their production engineering team. This is a hands-on position focused on manufacturing specialist components and assemblies using traditional toolroom and manual machining techniques.

Tool Maker - Position Overview

• Manufacture components and assemblies to engineering drawings and specifications.
• Use manual milling, turning, surface grinding and bench fitting techniques.
• Inspect components, approve first-offs and maintain quality throughout production runs.
• Work with the production team to prioritise manufacturing requirements and schedules.
• Support the workshop with modification of components and assemblies.
• Strip, assess and rebuild vehicle sub-assemblies where required.
• Operate additional production machinery following appropriate training.
• Carry out general workshop duties including material preparation, cutting, deburring and hand finishing.
• Complete relevant production and inspection records.
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
• Follow all Health & Safety procedures and safe working practices.

Tool Maker - Position Requirements

• Time-served apprenticeship in Toolmaking, Machining or a similar engineering discipline.
• Strong experience within a traditional toolroom environment.
• Competent with manual milling, turning and surface grinding.
• Excellent attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
• Good organisational and prioritisation skills.
• Able to work independently and take ownership of tasks.
• Proactive, practical and hands-on approach to problem solving.
• Minimum 2-3 years' relevant experience in a similar role.
• Experience with gearboxes and differentials would be advantageous.

Tool Maker - Position Benefits

• £16.00-£21.00 per hour, depending on experience.
• Monday to Friday 07:00 - 16:00.
