Job summary

INDENGINEERING is seeking a Toolmaker in Huntingdon to join a well-established manufacturing team. You will work across production and prototype tooling, manufacturing, repairing, and maintaining tooling to ensure smooth production flow.

The role requires reading engineering drawings, operating toolroom machinery, and a strong emphasis on quality and reliability. Core hours are 08:00–16:00, with potential overtime and on-site duties.

Qualifications

• Must have toolmaker/toolroom experience.
• Able to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Experience operating toolroom machinery.

Responsibilities

• Manufacture, repair, and modify tooling from drawings and specifications.
• Prepare and finish CNC tooling including polishing and drilling vent holes.
• Produce tooling samples for testing and approval.
• Carry out maintenance and refurbishment of production tooling to ensure optimum performance.
• Prioritise urgent tooling repairs and breakdown support to minimise production disruption.
• Assist with manufacture and preparation of prototype tooling for product development.
• Maintain clean, safe toolroom environment and ensure machinery is in good working order.
• Monitor stock levels of consumables and tooling components and raise replenishment requests as required.
• Record time spent on tooling projects to support costing activities.
• Identify and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the technical department.

Toolmaker

Location: Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire Job type: Permanent, full time Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 per annum, dependent on experience

The role

We are recruiting a Toolmaker on behalf of a well-established manufacturing business with a strong and active toolroom function. This is a permanent, full-time opportunity suited to an experienced toolmaker who is comfortable working across both production and prototype tooling, and who takes pride in quality, reliability, and keeping production running smoothly.

Main responsibilities

• Manufacture, repair, and modify production tooling, machine spares, and tooling accessories from engineering drawings and specifications
• Prepare and finish CNC tooling including polishing, cleaning, and drilling vent holes where required
• Produce tooling samples for testing and approval using designated machinery
• Carry out maintenance and refurbishment of production tooling to ensure optimum performance
• Prioritise urgent tooling repairs and breakdown support to minimise production disruption
• Assist with the manufacture and preparation of prototype tooling and support product development projects
• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe toolroom environment and ensure machinery is kept in good working order
• Monitor stock levels of consumables, materials, and tooling components and raise replenishment requests as required
• Accurately record time spent on tooling projects and repairs to support costing activities
• Identify and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the technical department

Skills/experience

Essential:

• Previous experience in a Toolmaker or Toolroom role
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
• Experience using toolroom machinery and equipment
• Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills
• High attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Ability to prioritise workload and respond to production demands
• Good communication and teamwork skills

Desirable:

• Engineering apprenticeship or recognised engineering qualification
• Experience with CNC tooling and manufacturing processes
• Knowledge of continuous improvement or lean manufacturing principles

Salary & working hours

• Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 per annum, dependent on experience
• Core hours: 08:00 - 16:00, Monday to Friday, with flexibility to start and finish up to one hour either side
• Overtime available
