Job summary

A leading talent acquisition consultancy is looking for a Tooling Design Engineer for a 6-month contract in Ampthill. This role is with an esteemed Defence and Aerospace company, requiring expertise in CREO and CNC machining. Responsibilities include developing manufacturing tooling and creating detailed process instructions. Ideal candidates will have a background in tooling design and experience producing detailed drawings to BS8888.

Tooling Design Engineer

6 month contract

Based in Ampthill

Offering 50ph Inside IR35

Responsibilities

• As the Tooling Design Engineer, you will be working alongside a market-leading Defence and Aerospace company who are constantly growing and developing. They are always looking to bring on new talents such as yourself and further develop your skills to enable you to grow within the company and industry.
• Develop manufacturing tooling within any of the following technologies;
  • CNC Machining
  • Composite layup
• Designing any new tooling & fixturing requirements
• Experienced in the creation of Technical Requirement Specifications
• Creation of detailed process instructions
• Creation of Manufacturing BOMs / routings to aid ease of manufacture
• Supporting full-rate production of a range of products aligned to the business requirements.
• Liaison of activities with Industrial Engineering, Production Engineering, and other functions
• Support with the business process reviews and generation/update of relevant documentation

Qualifications

• A background in tooling design and experience gained from within a manufacturing environment
• Broad manufacturing knowledge; industry experience with CNC machining, composites, fabrication, mechanical assembly, additive manufacturing
• Ability to design new tooling, developing from initial concepts through to production release
• Experience using CAD software (CREO) to generate 3D models and technical drawings
• Experience using PDM software (Windchill) to manage document release and change
• Ability to produce detailed drawings to BS8888
• An understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerances)
• Awareness of DFM/A and PFMEA principles and practical application
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma Methodology, Quality toolset
• Experience preparing manufacturing BOMs, routings, and manufacturing process instructions
