Job description

Due to a significant manufacturing ramp-up, the Tooling and Production Design Support Team is experiencing exciting growth, creating the need for an experienced and forward thinking engineer to lead the team into the future.

Salary: Circa £66,000 depending on experience

Dynamic (hybrid) working: 2 -3 days per week on-site

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship. Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:

As Tooling and Production Design Support Team Lead, you will be responsible for a high performing group of around 13 engineers, responsible for delivering complex tooling designs and providing critical mechanical production support across a wide range of projects. This is a key leadership role in a dynamic environment where your technical expertise and ability to manage change will help shape the team's continued success.

You will guide the team at the heart of a rapidly evolving and high demand sector, where smart, adaptable solutions are key to success. This role offers the opportunity to lead both tooling design and production support functions, balancing technical leadership with project management. You will be given the freedom to effect change - using lateral thinking to explore new approaches, streamline process and improve operational efficiency, whilst delivering high quality solutions both on time and in budget. With a focus on continual improvement and team development, you will help forge cross-functional bonds and ensure your team is empowered to deliver practical, innovative solutions that keep pace with growing demand.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of mechanical engineers

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to align technical solutions with business goals

  • Manage project timelines, priorities and resource allocation, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met

  • Develop processes with stakeholders to drive best practise

  • Identify and remove blockers and foster team collaboration

  • Provide regular feedback, career development support and team engagement activities.

What we're looking for from you:

  • Proven experience in a technical leadership or team lead role

  • Ideally Degree/HND/HNC qualified plus significant experience in Mechanical Design and Development

  • Experience in engineeringand project management.

  • Exceptional people management skills with a focus on team empowerment and accountability

  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills

  • Strong organizational skills in a fast paced environment
