Tissue Viability Nurse

An exciting opportunity has become available within the Tissue Viability team at UHSussex covering Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath and Newhaven sites. The post holder will be able to develop their understanding of harm-free care and skin integrity and how these relate to the trusts strategy.

You will be advocating and practising autonomously under the direction of the supervision of the Tissue Viability Nurse Specialist for a variety of patients at the major trauma centre hospital site to optimise their care delivery and patient experience.

Main duties of the job

Being part of the Tissue Viability Team at UHSussex will require passion, determination, innovations, and excellent team work. The post holder will need to be able to assess the patient holistically and act as their advocate to achieve optimal wound healing goals.

There will be a need for the post holder to be flexible at times to provide service delivery across multiple hospital sites across the Trust.

There will be support and supervision to ensure the post holder is competent and confident to deliver the needs of the service acrossthe differing sites.

The post holder will have delegated responsibilities including supporting and developing high quality evidence based wound care practices within the organisation.

As well as striving to deliver effective teaching both in a classroom setting and on a 1-1 basis.

The post holder will assist with the development and participate in the delivery of the tissue viability educational program to health care professionals involved with wound care and skin care within the acute care setting.

The purpose of the post is to contribute to an advanced specialist tissue viability service that positively impacts on the experience of patients by providing high standards of clinical practice and care as appropriate across the Trust.

Job responsibilities
  • Act as and be fully engaged with the tissue viability teams a cross the organisation.
  • Act as a role model and demonstrate high standards of infection prevention and hand hygiene policies and protocols.
  • Provide professional and clinical leadership in aspects of tissue viability and issues with skin integrity breakdown.
  • Actively support service delivery through appropriate triaging of referrals to ensure the patient list is actioned in order of severity.
  • Deliver high standards of wound care treatment and management.
  • Provide autonomous assessments and develop management plans for inpatients at the Brighton, Newhaven, and Haywards Heath hospital sites.
  • Support the tissue viability team to deliver teaching, training, and education programmes following the needs of the staff, their disciplines, and their banding.
  • Deliver ward based focused training to improve knowledge and understanding of the ward nursing teams.
  • Contribute to the trust wide strategy of implementing the aSSKINg care bundle.
