Thrive Practitioner

Location: Aurora Cedars, Wolverhampton

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent

Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Term time only

Salary: £14.77 p/hr to £16.13 p/hr depending on qualifications and experience (Annual salary £26,391 to £28,821)

Aurora Cedars School in Wolverhampton will offer a bespoke education provision for up to 80 pupils aged 5-19 who have ASC/SEMH needs. The curriculum is creative and personalised for the pupils to ensure that we provide them with the best opportunities to succeed.

The Headteacher is looking for fun, passionate, dedicated, and driven staff to help support her vision for the pupils and the school environment. We are currently looking for a Thrive Practitioner to join our new school.

The main purpose of the role:

The purpose of the THRIVE practitioner is to ensure the day to day running of a THRIVE provision to support the development, social, emotional and behavioural needs of pupils improving their active engagement in their social and academic environments and access to learning.

Key duties:

  • Take responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils according to the school’s policies, including safeguarding and PREVENT.
  • Use specialist skills, training, or experience to support pupils’ emotional development and behaviour needs.
  • Support the day to day running of a Thrive provision ensuring that pupils are effectively supervised, implementing timetables, planning, strategies and activities to meet the individual needs of pupils.
  • Provide play and arts-based enjoyable experiences that give young people the opportunity to learn through experience rather than through cognitively based learning.
  • Deliver 1:1, small groups and class group sessions.
  • Work alongside the SLT and clinical team to actively assess pupil’s progress and create up to date action plans through regular Thrive assessments.
  • Keep statistical data as requested by SENDCO and/or clinical team.
  • Develop and contribute to the delivering of staff training in order to implement and embed the Thrive Approach model across the school.
Skills and Qualifications

Qualifications

  • GCSE pass above C (or 4 in the new GCSE system) in English and Maths.
  • Desirable: THRIVE training or willingness to undertake practitioner training.
  • Desirable: PRICE or equivalent trained or willingness to undertake training.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures.
  • Relevant knowledge and experience of pupils with SEN, ADHD and ASD.
  • Experience of working with children in an educational setting.
  • Desirable: Experience of running nurture groups/social skills groups.

Skills and Behaviours

  • Commitment to the role, the desire to put the child first and treat them as an individual.
  • Be positive and creative in meeting pupils’ needs.
  • Can work unaccompanied and as a member of a team, understanding their role in school and associated responsibilities.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff and professionals with good interpersonal skills.
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Competent ICT skills.
  • Be flexible, adaptable and solution focused.
  • Ability to manage emotional demands of working with young people with a wide range of behavioural, social and emotional issues.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Desirable: Can actively self-evaluate learning needs and seek out learning opportunities.
