Team/Role Overview

The Third Party Risk Officer (TPRO) is responsible for focusing on those third-party relationships which carry the highest degree of risk for Citi’s businesses. The TPRO requires in-depth Markets product knowledge and expertise and will oversee the third-party relationship across all stages of the lifecycle. The TPRO will collaborate with multiple business functions, technology teams, and internal departments to identify, manage, and mitigate risk.

The Business Risk Officer is a strategic professional who stays informed about developments within their field and contributes to strategic planning by applying their knowledge to their role and the business. They are recognized as a technical authority within their area. Basic commercial awareness is required. Several individuals within the organization may possess similar expertise. Effective communication and diplomacy skills are necessary to guide, influence, and persuade colleagues and external stakeholders. The role has a significant impact through complex deliverables and provides advice related to technology or operations, influencing the overall performance of the sub-function/job family.

What you’ll do

  1. Support initial Risk Assessments for third parties and reevaluate as needed; identify significant changes that may trigger an update.
  2. Verify third-party compliance with policies and controls.
  3. Collaborate with business contacts to establish risk mitigation activities to minimize Citi’s risk exposure.
  4. Engage with third parties on escalations related to non-performance and contractual issues to facilitate resolution.
  5. Maintain a dashboard to monitor third-party performance, including SLA breaches.
  6. Review and act on results from Risk Management Assessments/Analyses (e.g., IS, COB, DPO, Export, Credit, Country, Financial Evaluations).
  7. Lead remediation efforts for issues or gaps identified during ongoing monitoring.
  8. Define risk mitigation strategies and exceptions aligned with the business’s risk appetite.
  9. Manage and support multiple risk and control programs, including strategy, processes, tools, and reporting to ensure global consistency and excellence.
  10. Establish quarterly audit processes to ensure proper controls and calculations.
  11. Work with business partners on findings and recommend improvements.
  12. Develop procedures and change management processes with Operations and Reporting teams to ensure governance.
  13. Review procedures for regulatory compliance and customer impact.
  14. Conduct internal testing of dispute processes to ensure controls are effective.
  15. Monitor policy exceptions and identify drivers.
  16. Utilize data to analyze impacts on customer experience and regulatory compliance.
  17. Operate independently with limited supervision and exercise judgment and autonomy.
  18. Serve as SME to senior stakeholders and team members.
  19. Assess risk in business decisions, ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, policies, and ethical standards, and escalate issues transparently.

What we’ll need from you

  • Relevant experience in Business Risk & Controls.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Access, SAS, SQL, Visual Basic; experience in financial services preferred.
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and influencing skills.
  • Experience in third-party vendor management and leading global teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic and process improvements.
