Job description

Part time, permanent position, 26.25 hours per week.

The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic individual to the Band 4 Therapy Assistant Practitioner role within the Inpatient Therapy Team at Rotherham Hospital.

As a therapy assistant practitioner you will be part of a large well-established team of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Therapy Assistant Practitioners and Therapy Support Workers. The team work generically, providing high quality care through effective team work in a fast paced environment. You will carry your own patient caseload providing early assessment, identifying their therapy needs, delivering therapeutic health care (including manual handling, mobilisation, delivering exercises and supporting activities of daily living) and working towards early discharge from hospital.

A positive and organised approach to rehabilitation and MDT working is essential as well as good communication skills and a commitment to team working within a safe, empathetic and supportive environment.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to work 26 hours and 15 minutes, between 08:30 and 16:30, Monday to Friday, with an expectation to contribute to weekend working. The successful candidate should be suitably qualified (foundation degree or NVQ III equivalent) and be able to demonstrate their experience relevant to the role.

The role involves working independently as well as part of the MDT offering evidence based/current best practice over 7 days to support with therapeutic assessment, intervention and timely discharge planning of adult patients across the inpatient therapy wards within Rotherham Hospital.Part of the role also includes appropriate identification of onward therapy needs and timely referrals to community services.

The patient caseload will present with a wide variety of conditions which may include cardiology, respiratory, general surgery, general medicine, frailty/care of the elderly, endocrinology/haematology and so on. We do not cover the specialities of stroke and orthopaedics.
