Job summary

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is seeking an enthusiastic Therapy Assistant to support the orthopaedic inpatient and day-case service. You will participate in assessments, pre/post-operative care, discharge planning, and provision of walking aids to facilitate timely discharge.

You will drive a manual car, have a relevant qualification, and contribute to a busy clinical caseload with a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Ability to drive a manual car and hold a clean driver's license.
  • Having completed NVQ III Care or equivalent qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in assessment and pre/post operative treatment for orthopaedic inpatients and day-case patients.
  • Manage discharge planning and prescribe/provide walking aids and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment provision and deliver equipment within the hospital.
  • Work flexibly and participate in evenings and 7-day patterns to ensure patient care and throughput.
  • Weekend work typically on a 1 in 4 pattern; flexible pattern considered.

Job description

The Team provides a high quality, patient centred service to the inpatient Orthopaedic service, working closely with the multi disciplinary team. Rehabilitation programs are implemented to maximise post operative function and patient satisfaction within an efficient service. Senior team leadership provides a supportive working and learning environment., We are looking for an enthusiastic Therapy Assistant to join our team. You will participate in the assessment, pre and post operative treatment, management and discharge planning of our Orthopaedic inpatients and day case surgery patients. You will be responsible for the prescription and provision of appropriate walking aids and equipment to facilitate timely discharge. You will be responsible for keeping accurate records of equipment provision for the team and delivering equipment to other areas of the hospital., To understand the role in more detail please read the full job description and person specification documents which are attached to this advert
You will have excellent communication skills, be highly organised and have the ability to manage a busy clinical caseload. You will have the ability to work flexibly and participate in the team's evening and 7 day work patterns to ensure optimal patient care and throughput. Weekend working is usually based on a 1 in 4 pattern. Flexible working pattern will be considered.,

  • Ability to drive a manual car and hold a clean driver's license, NVQ III Care/Promoting Independence/or Diagnostic and Therapeutic Support or equivalent qualification, Previous work as Therapy/Care Assistant, where direct patient care is involved
  • Working with patients with Physical Impairment and/or Cognitive dysfunction, Previous experience in generic therapy role, The effects of physical and cognitive impairment, on skills, abilities and lifestyle.

  • Basic rehabilitation techniques

If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not bereimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute.
