Job summary

JustOT in Peterborough is seeking a Band 4 Therapy Assistant to join our neurological care and rehabilitation team. You will work under supervision of Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist or Speech and Language Therapist to support treatment plans.

This role involves preparing residents for therapy, monitoring progress, maintaining records using SOAP notes, and assisting with OT kitchen activities and equipment.

Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Maths are required.
  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent training with evidence of learning/competency.
  • Experience in Health and/or Social Care with adults.
  • Basic understanding of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy.
  • Able to work autonomously and in a team.
  • Approachable and empathetic.
  • Flexible approach to changing circumstances.
  • Ability to build rapport.

Responsibilities

  • Participate as a full member of the Therapy team in implementing treatment plans.
  • Prepare residents for therapy, maintaining privacy and dignity.
  • Provide supervised monitoring, support and assessment of residents’ health needs.
  • Prepare and clean equipment, maintain tidy areas during and after treatment.
  • Check and maintain equipment for safety and report faults.
  • Record progress using SOAP format in therapy notes.
  • Carry out therapeutic massage, exercises and passive stretching as instructed.
  • Conduct skin integrity checks as instructed.
  • Update therapy database records as required.
  • Attend daily nursing handovers and relay information to Health Care Assistants and Therapy team.
  • Support OT kitchen sessions as directed.

Our client is looking for a band 4 Therapy Assistant, in Peterborough . This client is a Neurological care & Rehabilitation client group. Our client provides compassionate care for loved ones, with a team of skilled carers, nurses and therapists dedicated to the well-being of each resident we support. Their adult services provide rehabilitation and long-term support for individuals who have suffered acquired or traumatic brain injury. Our multidisciplinary team provides rehabilitation and longer-term living. The rehabilitation provided spans behavioural, social, cognitive, physical and functional skills retraining.

This position is under the direct supervision of the Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist or Speech and Language Therapist to carry out delegated Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy or Speech and Language Therapy support duties and work with residents to facilitate their treatment plan and achieve agreed goals.

Job Role:
  • To participate as a full member of the Therapy team in the implementation of individual treatment plans including other relevant multi-disciplinary team members where appropriate.
  • Prepare residents for therapy, ensuring their privacy and dignity is maintained at all times.
  • To provide under the supervision of the Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist and Speech and Language Therapist ongoing monitoring, support and assessment of residents’ physical and mental health needs.
  • Prepare and clean equipment, maintain tidy working areas during and after treatment.
  • Check and maintain equipment safe for use and action according to company policy if faulty.
  • Monitor progress of individuals and report any observations to the Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Speech and Language Therapist and the Nurse in Charge.
  • Maintain accurate and legible records using SOAP format in the therapy notes.
  • To carry out therapeutic massage, exercises and passive stretching techniques as instructed by the Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist.
  • To undertake skin integrity checks as instructed by the Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist.
  • To update therapy database records as required or requested to complete by the Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist
  • To attend daily nursing handovers on all Units every morning and feedback any relevant information to the Health Care Assistants and Therapy team.
  • To support with OT kitchen sessions as directed by the Occupational Therapist.
  • To carry out shopping for ingredients if not available from the kitchen for Occupational Therapy Kitchen sessions.
  • Ensure rehabilitation goals of any intervention are clearly developed in conjunction with the resident and, where appropriate, carers. It would be desirable to use recognised outcome tools to aid evaluation of the goals, where appropriate.
  • To use a range of treatment skills and options within your competency level to make decisions on individualised rehabilitation programmes, but always seeking guidance from a qualified Therapist where a task is beyond your scope of practice.
  • Carry out the implementation of treatment programmes or, where appropriate, set up elements of the programmes to be carried out by carers.
Requirements:
  • Proven educational standard to GCSE in English and Math’s (or the equivalent)
  • To have (or be working towards) a relevant NVQ 2 or equivalent training with supporting evidence of learning/competency.
  • Experience in Health and/or Social Care settings with adults with a range of illnesses or disabilities.
  • Basic understanding of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy.
  • Experience of working autonomously and of working within a team.
  • Experience in Health and/or Social Care settings with adults with a range of illnesses or disabilities.
  • Approachable and empathetic.
  • Flexible approach to changing circumstances.
  • Ability to build rapport.
