Position Details:
This position includes a $3,000 sign-on bonus.

The Children’s COP SUD Therapist manages a caseload of children, adolescents, and families, primarily with substance abuse and/or mental health diagnoses. Responsibilities include collaborating with team members and external providers, conducting intake assessments, maintaining case records, completing authorizations, and providing treatment services based on medical necessity. Full-time staff work 37.5 hours weekly, including at least 4 hours after 5:00 pm.

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Meet all contract requirements of funding sources, including maintaining CAADC/Development Plan Certification and State licensure.
  2. Deliver clinical services, including intake evaluations, substance abuse screenings, assessments, and treatment for children, adolescents, and families.
  3. Conduct Intake Assessments and complete necessary paperwork.
  4. Gather and integrate information from various sources, including client self-reports, family, guardian, probation reports, and medical history.
  5. Assist in developing comprehensive Person-Centered Treatment Plans with clients and team members.
  6. Provide face-to-face clinical interventions at least monthly.
  7. Offer individual, family, and group therapy.
  8. Conduct crisis planning with clients.
  9. Provide parent education, coaching, and training.
  10. Refer clients to additional services and community resources.
  11. Collaborate with other professionals involved in the child's care.
  12. Advocate for children and families to meet their needs and enhance self-sufficiency.
  13. Assess client satisfaction and participate in program evaluations.
  14. Participate in supervision, team meetings, and case consultations.
  15. Complete documentation timely and according to policies.
  16. Work with staff on unit and agency issues, including supervision of students.
  17. Adhere to the professional code of ethics.
  18. Represent The Guidance Center professionally in the community.
  19. Maintain necessary state licensure and certifications.
  20. Complete 24 hours of training annually related to children or adolescents.
  21. Coordinate schedule with supervisor, working at least 4 hours weekly after 5:00 pm.
  22. Provide 23 hours of billable services weekly.
  23. Plan effective discharge procedures before case closure.
  24. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling, with corresponding State of Michigan licensure. Candidates without a license may be considered if they obtain licensure within 60 days of hire.
  • Must obtain Child Mental Health Professional credential within 120 days of hire.
  • Possess a CAADC credential or be actively pursuing one within six weeks of hire.
  • At least one year of experience working with individuals diagnosed with mental illness and substance use disorders.
  • Additional qualities include cultural competency, effective engagement with diverse populations, ability to develop therapeutic relationships, collaborate with team members and providers, and flexibility.
