Job description

We are searching for an enthusiastic, dynamic, competent Band 5 Radiographer to join our welcoming Radiotherapy team.

The radiographer will be expected to provide clinical practice relevant to all areas within the scope of the role. They will maintain a level of clinical and administrative competence while acting within the standards of proficiency expected of the position.

The Radiographer will be expected to:

1. Maintain clinical workloads by treating patients and carrying out tasks using processes outlined within the Quality System.
2. Provide information to other professionals, the wider multidisciplinary team, patients, and their families/carers where asked, and if the request is within their scope of knowledge.
3. Acknowledge limitations on skills and knowledge and seek advice/signpost where appropriate.
4. Work with the team to maintain and improve the service for all users, including participation in audits.
5. Participate in the training and development of the student cohort and proactively enhance patient experience.
6. Communicate effectively within their teams and the department to ensure we continue to operate as one team.

1. Clinical Practice

To develop and maintain good working relationships with all staff and departments, liaising with all members of the multidisciplinary team and other healthcare groups to ensure a quality, patient-centred, seamless service.

To be an integral part of the multidisciplinary team, providing the highest standard of care for patients.

Provide necessary information for patient management decisions, seek advice, and reflect on practice to develop skills.

Recognize limitations and seek support as per departmental escalation policies.

Communicate, guide, and support patients and carers through all stages of the radiotherapy process, including signposting to holistic needs and psychological or counseling services if needed.

Advise about treatment and side effects to patients, relatives, and carers in a timely and sensitive manner.

Assess, recognize, and manage radiotherapy-induced toxicity and cancer-related side effects during treatment.

Respect ethical, moral, cultural, religious, and social values underpinning a patient’s identity.

Maintain and promote human dignity, rights, and confidentiality.

Report any injuries to patients, visitors, or contractors according to Trust policy, completing documentation and informing the Head of Radiotherapy.

Be professionally and legally responsible for all aspects of your practice, practicing within current legislation and fulfilling the duty of care.

Comply with departmental policies for IR(ME)R 2017 compliance.

Work under supervision of senior/superintendent radiographers to review departmental protocols.

Adhere to professional, statutory, and Trust policies and procedures.

Undertake other duties as required by service needs.

Education & Training

Maintain personal and professional development through appraisal and a portfolio of lifelong learning.

Participate in clinical teaching and support of students, acting as mentors for undergraduate Radiotherapy students.

Support and educate the student cohort using effective communication skills.

Promote the profession, demonstrate equipment, and contribute to education for visitors, students, other healthcare professionals, patients, and the community.

Participate in presentations to promote knowledge and awareness of radiotherapy and develop the service as a team.

2. Practice & Service Development

Participate in the department’s clinical and quality audit programs and developmental projects.

Stay informed of current research, trends, and developments in the field of radiotherapy.
