Job description

Therapeutic Education Practitioner

Do you have a background in SEMH, SEBD, or ASD? Have you had experience with challenging behaviour? Do you have Team Teach or MAPA training? Have you covered lessons? Experience tutoring or teaching small groups?

This specialist school based in Feltham is seeking a Therapeutic Education Practitioner with experience working with challenging children and young people. It is a specialist PRU catering to young people who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream schools.

Summary of Role
  • Opportunity to work in a renowned SEMH school known for its expertise, curriculum, and resources in special education.
  • Experience working with hard-to-reach young people with SEMH/ACEs/ASD/Sensory and communication difficulties.
  • Trauma-informed candidates with mentoring, coaching, or teaching backgrounds and an understanding of Therapeutic Education are preferred.
  • Ability to build strong, meaningful, and healthy relationships.
  • Maintain professional boundaries, demonstrate resilience, and be solution-focused and reflective in practice.
  • Full-time, long-term position, Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
  • Role involves working 1:1 with students in the community across different curriculum pathways (Engagement, Vocational, Academic).
  • Primarily community-based, with flexibility to travel to the hub and around London to work with different students.
  • Attend the Therapy and Life Skills Hub in Newham every Friday for CPD, meetings, and resources.
  • No onsite private parking; pay and display available.
  • Travel expenses and lunch with students are reimbursed.
Skills
  • Experience working with mental health issues and complex SEN needs.
  • Commitment to providing a safe, stable, and supportive learning environment for all young people.
  • Experience working with secondary pupils with SEMH, SEBD, and troubled behaviour, ranging from KS2 to KS4.
  • Ability to develop highly personalized individual education plans.
  • Collaborate closely with nurses, doctors, therapists, and community professionals.
  • Start ASAP.
  • Excellent behaviour management skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with young people and staff.
  • Flexibility to teach or cover a range of lessons as needed.
  • Good knowledge and experience working with children with SEMH in a special needs environment.
  • Experience working with secondary-aged pupils.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to define appropriate activities based on curriculum needs.
  • Assess children with learning difficulties and work with colleagues to identify individual needs.
  • Liaise with other professionals such as social workers, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, and educational psychologists.

This is a full-time, long-term position with the potential to become permanent.
