Theatre Technician (Zero-hours)

Location: Brighton

Salary: GBP 15.32 per hour, inclusive of holiday pay

Vacancy Type: Permanent/Part Time

Brighton College is seeking a Theatre Technician on a zero-hours basis.

Main Purpose of the Role: The Theatre Technician will work with the Performing Arts Team, alongside all teaching and support staff, to support the technical provision within performing arts.

Role Summary: The Theatre Technician plays a key role within the Performing Arts Team, supporting the Performing Arts departments and other users of the Richard Cairns Building with the technical resources needed for their events. The ideal candidate will have a passion for theatre and a keen interest in all aspects of technical theatre, with experience in lighting, sound, or stage management.

General Duties and Responsibilities

Technical Delivery:
• Provide technical support for events and performances.
• Support curriculum delivery regarding technical provision.
• Support in rigging and operation of lighting, sound, AV, and stage equipment.

Performances and Events:
• Ensure effective delivery of performances and events, including assemblies, lessons, and external events.
• Provide theatrical resources to visiting users.
• Take on duty manager shifts as required.

Relationships with Other Teams:
• Work closely with the Performing Arts Team.
• Attend departmental meetings.
• Contribute creatively to Arts Programme planning.

Operations of the Theatre:
• Maintain high standards of facilities and technical equipment.
• Support maintenance and repairs.
• Assist in organizing technical equipment.
• Cover Front of House and Back of House roles.

Performance Duties:
• Participate in various performance roles.
• Source props for productions.

Person Specifications:
• Formal technical theatre training or equivalent experience.
• Good knowledge of lighting, sound, and staging equipment.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Passion for the arts.
• Enthusiastic and calm demeanor.
• Ability to work at heights and lift heavy equipment.
• Good communication skills.
• Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation.

Hours of Work: This is a year-round, zero-hours position with ad hoc hours. The college will notify you of available work, but there is no obligation to accept it.

Remuneration: GBP 15.32 per hour, inclusive of holiday pay.

Holidays: Included in hourly pay.
