One Hatfield Hospital, Hertfordshire, has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Theatre Support Worker to work with our friendly Theatre team in a state-of-the-art environment, supporting consultants at the top of their field.

Reporting to the Theatre Manager, the successful Theatre Support Worker will assist the qualified nurses to care for patients following surgical, investigative or medical procedures in line with national guidelines, hospital policies and best practice standards in the Theatre setting, including:

  • You will be responsible for preparing theatres for surgery including the cleaning of theatre and recovery areas, collecting and escorting patients and maintaining appropriate patient records
  • Participating in admission, recovery and discharge of patients, in accordance with unit policies and patient pathways, reporting to qualified staff as directed.
  • Co-ordinating the use of the supplies and equipment during a list and in the immediate post-operative phase of care ensuring the equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner
  • Participating effectively in the preparation, maintenance, cleaning and disinfecting of all equipment and procedure rooms.
  • Decontaminating all equipment after each procedure

Hours: 37.5 per week; shifts between Monday-Saturday.

Theatre Support Worker

Qualifications:

  • Minimum GCSE education or equivalent
  • NVQ or equivalent, Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care preferred
  • Care Certificate

Experience:

  • Ability to learn and develop and undertake appropriate NVQ or equivalent training
  • Clinical experience in a surgical theatre setting desirable.
  • Experience of decontamination desirable

Skills:

  • Patient focused; able to deliver a high standard of customer care
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of the business
  • Basic computer skills
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills
