Job description

Weston General Hospital is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Theatre Scrub Practitioner to join our friendly and dedicated team in the Surgical Day Case Unit (SDCU).

The ideal candidate must have scrub experience, ideally across a range of specialties, and be able to work flexibly within our multi-disciplinary team to deliver high standards of perioperative care.

This is a Band 5 role working up to 37.5 hours per week, based within our Surgical Day Case Unit and the wider Main Theatres team, depending on service needs.

Weston Theatres is a small but dynamic unit with a strong team spirit and a passion for delivering safe, effective, and person-centred care. We have six theatres in total – two within the Day Case Unit and four in the Main Theatres – supporting a wide range of elective and emergency procedures including:

• General & Colorectal Surgery
• Breast Surgery
• Urology
• Gynaecology
• Orthopaedics and Trauma

Responsibilities include:

1. Developing measurable patient care plans/goals in partnership with other professionals, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation from admission to transfer or discharge.
2. Taking charge of the clinical needs of a group of defined patients, prioritising workload according to changing clinical needs over a 24-hour period.
3. Occasionally taking charge of the ward/department, prioritising workload accordingly.
4. Delegating tasks to team members related to patient care.
5. Maintaining accurate and timely nursing documentation in line with Trust standards.
6. Demonstrating awareness and compliance with Trust policies, promoting this among colleagues.
7. Promoting and maintaining a safe environment for patients.
8. Administering medicines in accordance with Trust policy.
9. Promoting a clean environment and preventing hospital-acquired infections.
10. Responding promptly to resolve problems/issues for patients and carers, utilising complaints procedures and PALs when appropriate.
