Job description

We have vacancies for Band 5 Theatre Scrub Practitioner/ODP to join Theatre team.

We are currently looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated registered nurse to join our theatre team in CMH Theatres. We have nine modern operating theatres and a fully equipped recovery Unit. We cover a range of specialities in acute and elective surgery. Specialities include Colorectal, General, Urology, ENT, Ophthalmology surgery and Electives Orthopaedics.

You will be an RGN / ODP with post registration experience in peri-operative nursing (scrubbing and circulating) to join our theatre team. The applicant would be expected to work in all specialities with a rotation base.

You should have good communication and interpersonal skills, be willing to learn, and be prepared to utilise your skills in all peri-operative areas. A willingness to monitor the usage of equipment to ensure efficiency and cost-effective working is advantageous.

Post involves Early, late duty, Long Day, on call and working Monday to Saturday.

Responsibilities:
  1. Participate in developing and consolidating a cohesive and supportive team within the peri-operative environment.
  2. Ensure good communication verbally and via formal documentation and electronic sources with all members of the peri-operative nursing, multidisciplinary team, patients and families to ensure patients receive optimum care.
  3. Maintain the patient’s right to privacy and dignity at all times.
  4. Communicate with all colleagues in a courteous and sympathetic manner.
  5. Act as advocate for the patient and family.
  6. Ensure carers/family and visitors are aware of policies, standards/guidelines relevant to the patients care or clinical area.
  7. Work in partnership with the patient and family and other health care professionals in care/discharge planning.
  8. Accept responsibility; be aware and able to locate all policies relating to good working practice within the clinical area and able to adhere to both by self and.
  9. Recognize the legal implications of nursing documentation therefore maintaining accurate records.
  10. Maintain accurate and legible records of patient care in line with Trust policies and NMC/HCPC Code of Conduct.
  11. Adhere to the NMC/HCPC Code of Conduct and Trust policies pertaining to patient confidentiality/ the Data Protection Act/Caldicott Recommendations.
  12. To adhere to the trust swabs/instruments/needles count policy and WHO surgical checklist procedures.
