Job Overview

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board has an exciting opportunity for a Urology Deputy Theatre Team Lead, to join our experienced and dynamic team at The Royal Gwent Hospital (RGH). Theatres at the Royal Gwent Hospital are very busy, specialties include Orthopaedics, General Surgery, ENT, Breast Surgery, Gynaecology, and Urology.

We currently provide Urology elective and emergency theatre services predominantly at RGH, although cross-site elective and emergency cover and training will be required at the Grange hospital. The successful candidate will ensure that ABUHB is providing an efficient and effective service for patients undergoing elective and emergency surgical procedures and to provide safe cross-site cover.

We are a supportive, friendly department which is strongly centred on teamwork and patient care.

Main duties of the job

Ideally, the candidate will have experience of working within the operating theatre; however, full support and training will be given to any candidate who is motivated to join our team. A full orientation programme will be provided to the successful candidate. Candidates are expected to demonstrate commitment to their personal development and show a keen interest in the progression of theatre services and perioperative care.

The Royal Gwent offers an elective-only service from Monday to Friday. We also support our other Health Board Sites when required; therefore, the successful candidate is required to be flexible to the service.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be reliable, hardworking, and work well within a team. The applicant must be a Registered Nurse / Operating Department Practitioner.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications And/or Knowledge

Essential criteria

• Registered nurse/Operating Department Practitioner

Desirable criteria

• Degree module or equivalent in patient perioperative care.
• NVQ Assessor
• Mentorship training

Experience

• Relevant experience in area of speciality to post graduate Diploma level
• Evidence of shift/Team leading experience
• Evidence of ongoing professional and clinical development at expert practitioner level
• Commits to reduction of Bank and Agency usage cognisant of clinical quality and risk.
• Comprehensive knowledge of trust policy and procedures.
• Demonstrates a willingness to meet budgetary and performance constraints.
