Job summary

The London Independent Hospital in Stepney Green, part of Circle Health Group, is seeking a Theatre Practitioner to join the Scrub team on a bank basis. The role covers flexible shifts, providing instrumental, sterile preparation and support for the surgical team.

You must be registered with NMC or HCPC and have theatre experience in scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery, with orthopaedic scrubbing preferred for THR and TKR cases. Competitive hourly pay and supportive environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility and equipment safety.
• Support the anaesthetist with equipment prep, monitoring, airway management and patient positioning.
• Provide post-operative care, monitor vitals, manage pain and nausea, prepare patient for discharge.
• Adhere to infection prevention and control policies at all times.
• Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and patient needs.
• Check surgical/anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults.

Salary: Up to £28.56 per hour (depending on level of experience, training and qualification)

We have an opportunity for a Theatre Practitioner to join their team of staff in theTheatredepartment.

This is a bank role working on an “as and when required” basis, you will be required to supplement staffing levels during busy periods and provide cover for existing staff in times of annual leave or absence.

Duties of this role include:

• Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety; support the Anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning; and provide post-operative care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.
• Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times.
• Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and specific patient requirements.
• Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately.
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists.
• Support and contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

• Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
• Experience or training in a theatre environment in at least one area (scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery).
• Scrub Practitioner with Orthopaedic Background (THR and TKR).
• Understanding of infection control, manual handling, and patient safety principles.
• Ability to work under pressure, problem-solve, and respond quickly to changes in a dynamic environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to safe surgical practice.
