Job summary

The Albyn Hospital in Aberdeen, part of Circle Health Group, is seeking a Theatre Practitioner for theatre staff bank shifts. Roles available in anaesthetics, recovery, scrub, and SFA. You will prepare instruments, assist anaesthetists, monitor patients, and support safe surgical lists.

Must be NMC/HCPC registered with theatre experience. This is an as-and-when-required role with competitive hourly rates and flexible hours.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
• Experience or training in a theatre environment in at least one area (scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery).
• Understanding of infection control, manual handling, and patient safety principles.
• Ability to work under pressure, problem-solve, and respond quickly to changes in a dynamic environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to safe surgical practice.

Responsibilities

• Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety.
• Support the Anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning.
• Provide post-operative care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.

Theatre Practitioner The Albyn Hospital Bank Shifts Salary: Up to £25.00 per hour (depending on level of experience, training and qualification)

The Albyn Hospital in Aberdeen is part of Circle Health Group, Britain's leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics, performing more complex surgery than any other private healthcare provider in the country.

We have an opportunity for a Theatre Practitioner to join their team of staff in the Theatre department.

Positions in Anaesthetics and Recovery, Orthopaedic Scrub, General Scrub and SFA are all available.

This is a bank role working on an “as and when required” basis, you will be required to supplement staffing levels during busy periods and provide cover for existing staff in times of annual leave or absence.

Duties of this role include:

• Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety;
• support the Anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning;
• provide post-operative care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.

Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times. Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and specific patient requirements. Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately. Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists. Support and contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.
