Job summary

The Clementine Churchill Hospital in Harrow part of Circle Health Group is hiring a Theatre Practitioner to join the Theatre department on a permanent, full-time basis (37.5 hours per week). The role requires scrub experience, NMC/HCPC registration and the ability to work in a fast-paced surgical environment.

You will support the surgical team, ensure sterility and infection control, and help prepare theatres and equipment for procedures, contributing to safe patient care and positive team

Qualifications

  • Registered with NMC or HCPC and eligible to practise in theatre.
  • Experience in a theatre environment (scrub, anaesthetics or recovery).
  • Ability to work under pressure with accurate, safe practice.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility and supporting the anaesthetist.
  • Set up operating theatres and check equipment prior to use; report faults.
  • Maintain infection prevention and patient safety throughout shifts.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, efficient theatre lists.

The Clementine Churchill Hospital in Harrow Is part of Circle Health Group, Britain's leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics, performing more complex surgery than any other private healthcare provider in the country.

We have an opportunity for an Theatre Practitioner to join their team of staff in the Theatre department.

This is a full time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern.

Duties of this role include:
  • Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety; support the Anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning; and provide post-operative care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times.
  • Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and specific patient requirements.
  • Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists.
  • Support and contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
  • Experience or training in a theatre environment in at least one area (scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery).
  • Understanding of infection control, manual handling, and patient safety principles.
  • Ability to work under pressure, problem-solve, and respond quickly to changes in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to safe surgical practice.
