Job summary

Bath Hospital, part of Circle Health Group, is seeking a Theatre Practitioner - Orthopaedic Scrub (Bank) to join the Theatre team in Bath. This is a bank role working on an as-and-when-required basis to supplement staffing during busy periods and provide cover for annual leave or absence.

This role requires registration (NMC or HCPC) and theatre experience, with responsibilities including instrument prep, maintaining sterility, patient monitoring, and infection control to support safe, efficient

Responsibilities

• Prepare instruments and maintain sterility; anticipate surgeon needs and ensure equipment safety.
• Support anaesthetist with equipment prep, monitoring, airway management, and patient positioning.
• Provide post-operative care and monitor vitals, pain, and readiness for discharge.
• Adhere to infection prevention policies and perform theatre setup according to surgery type.
• Report faults in equipment and work with the team to maintain a safe theatre environment.
• Contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre atmosphere.

Salary: Up to £30.00 per hour (depending on level of experience, training and qualification)

We have an opportunity for a Theatre Practitioner to join their team of staff in theTheatre department.

This is a bank role working on an “as and when required” basis, you will be required to supplement staffing levels during busy periods and provide cover for existing staff in times of annual leave or absence.

Duties of this role include:

• Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety; support the Anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning; and provide post-operative care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.
• Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times.
• Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and specific patient requirements.
• Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately.
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists.
• Support and contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

• Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
• Experience or training in a theatre environment in at least one area (scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery).
• Understanding of infection control, manual handling, and patient safety principles.
• Ability to work under pressure, problem-solve, and respond quickly to changes in a dynamic environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to safe surgical practice.
