Job summary

Circle Health Group in Bath is looking for a Theatre Practitioner to join the Orthopaedic Scrub team at Bath Clinic. The role is full-time (37.5 hours per week) with a flexible shift pattern and a salary up to £44,000 depending on experience and qualifications.

You will assist the surgical team in instrument preparation, sterility maintenance, and patient monitoring, while supporting anaesthesia and post-operative care within a multidisciplinary theatre environment.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or ODP (HCPC) with theatre scrub experience.
  • Understanding of infection prevention, manual handling and patient safety.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare instruments, maintain sterility and assist surgeon as scrub nurse.
  • Support anaesthetist with equipment prep, monitoring and patient positioning.
  • Provide post-operative care and discharge readiness checks.
  • Adhere to infection control policies at all times.
  • Set up theatres according to surgery type and patient needs.
  • Check equipment for faults and report any issues promptly.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to ensure safe surgical lists.
  • Maintain a positive, respectful theatre environment.

About the Role

Bath Clinic is part of Circle Health Group, Britain's leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics, performing more complex surgery than any other private healthcare provider in the country. We have an opportunity for a Theatre Practitioner to join their team in the Theatre department. This is a full-time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern.

Role Responsibilities
  • Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety.
  • Support the Anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning.
  • Provide post-operative care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times.
  • Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and specific patient requirements.
  • Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists.
  • Support and contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.
Candidate Criteria
  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
  • Experience or training in a theatre environment specialising in scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery.
  • Understanding of infection control, manual handling, and patient safety principles.
  • Ability to work under pressure, problem-solve, and respond quickly to changes in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to safe surgical practice.
