Job summary

Circle Health Group in Nottingham is seeking a Theatre Practitioner to join the Theatre department on a full-time basis. The role involves supporting the surgical team, preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, and ensuring patient safety throughout the perioperative period.

The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team, contribute to a positive theatre environment, and cover flexible shifts to meet surgical demand.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or ODP (HCPC) qualification is required.
  • Experience or training in a theatre environment Scrub/Anaesthetics/Recovery is advantageous.
  • Understanding of infection control and patient safety principles.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, and supporting the anaesthetist.
  • Set up operating theatres according to the type of surgery and patient requirements.
  • Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults.
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists.
  • Provide post-operative care and monitor patients for discharge readiness.
  • Adhere to infection prevention policies at all times.

Job description

The Park Hospital in Nottinghamis part of Circle Health Group, Britain’s leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics, performing more complex surgery than any other private healthcare provider in the country.

We have an opportunity for a Theatre Practitioner to join their team of staff in the Theatre department.

This is a Full time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern.

Duties of this role include:
  • Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety; support the Anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning; and provide post-operative care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times.
  • Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and specific patient requirements.
  • Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists
  • Support and contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
  • Experience or training in a theatre environment specialising in scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery.
  • Understanding of infection control, manual handling, and patient safety principles.
  • Ability to work under pressure, problem-solve, and respond quickly to changes in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to safe surgical practice.
