Qualifications

Band 5 Theatre Practitioner ODP / Anaesthetic Nurse - Day Surgery Unit (WBCH Thatcham)

PLEASE NOTE: This post is based at West Berkshire Community Hospital (WBCH), London Road, Benham Hill, Thatcham, RG18 3AS.

This is a part-time post for 34 hours per week; worked over Monday–Friday.

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Band 5 Operating Department Practitioner or Anaesthetic Nurse to work within our dynamic Theatre team at the West Berkshire Community Hospital, Day Surgery Unit (Theatres and Endoscopy).

The Unit is open 8am – 6pm.

Applicants must be an HCPC registered ODP or a NMC registered nurse - applications are also welcome from newly qualified ODPs / Anaesthetic Nurses.

Main duties of the job

The role involves working in a variety of specialist areas, assisting the Anaethetist, including Maxillo Facial, Plastics, General Surgery, ENT, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics and Vascular. There will also be the opportunity to work in other Theatre areas namely Scrub and Recovery as well as in our Endoscopy area.

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated Theatre Practitioners who aspire to learn and develop to join our inspirational team.

Whether you have specific specialty experience or not, full support and training will be provided.

Applicants must be a registered ODP or NMC Registered Nurse with a post-registration nursing course in anaesthetics.

Successful candidates will demonstrate high standards of practice with excellent communication, clinical and decision making skills. You must be able to work under the pressure of a busy high throughput unit.

The successful candidate will hold the appropriate qualifications to be a current registered practitioner (RGN or ODP) and demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To contribute to the effective day-to-day operation of the Trust's theatres by providing skilled assistance to medical staff during the administration, maintenance and termination of general regional or local anaesthetics, by undertaking scrubbing and circulating duties and by providing skilled care in recovery.
