Job summary

Three Shires Hospital in Northampton is recruiting a Theatre Practitioner to join the Theatres team on a full-time, permanent basis. This 37.5-hour-per-week role requires a flexible shift pattern and a commitment to maintaining sterile environments and patient safety.

You will assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, supporting the anaesthetist, monitoring patients, and delivering postoperative care.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC) registration is required.
  • Experience or training in a theatre environment specialising in scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery.
  • Understanding of infection control, manual handling and patient safety principles.
  • Ability to work under pressure, problem-solve and respond quickly to changes in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility and equipment safety.
  • Support the anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management and positioning.
  • Provide postoperative care, monitor vital signs, manage pain and nausea, and discharge readiness.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control policies at all times.
  • Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and patient requirements.
  • Check surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, efficient theatre lists.

Three Shires Hospital 37.5 Hours & Permanent Salary: Up to £38,000.00 per year (depending on level of experience, training and qualification) Three Shires Hospital in Northampton is part of Circle Health Group, Britain's leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics, performing more complex surgery than any other private healthcare provider in the country. We have an opportunity for a Theatre Practitioner to join their team of staff in the Theatres department. This is a full-time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern.

Duties
  • Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety;
  • support the Anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning;
  • and provide post-operative care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times.
  • Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and specific patient requirements.
  • Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists
  • Support and contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.
