Overview

Theatre Porter – Cromwell Hospital, London SW5 0TU

Permanent, full time – 37.5 hours per week. Shifts are Monday to Sunday with a variety of shift patterns between 7:00 and 21:00. Overtime available as on-call hours. Competitive salary + fantastic benefits.

You will respond to requests for Theatre Portering services, operate systems and maintain logs and reports, follow processes and procedures, and help ensure the safety and welfare of staff, patients and visitors. You will interact with patients, consultants, staff and visitors in a way that aligns with Cromwell Hospital’s Service Vision “Every Patient is a VIP”.

Responsibilities
  • Respond to requests for Theatre Portering services and maintain accurate logs and reports.
  • Operate systems and follow established processes and procedures to support safety and welfare of staff, patients and visitors.
  • Escort patients to and from the Theatre department and other hospital departments.
  • Assist with positioning and transferring patients within the theatre, following required training and risk assessment.
  • Transport and handle equipment and materials in line with manual handling guidance.
  • Maintain equipment and the condition of wheelchairs, trolleys and related portering equipment; participate in inspections of emergency and theatre equipment.
  • Observe and report movement and access to restricted areas; comply with Health and Safety and Environmental safety requirements.
  • Maintain effective logs and promote information flow within the Theatre portering team and the wider hospital to anticipate changing circumstances.
  • Present for duty in a timely manner and maintain high professional standards in appearance and conduct.
  • Participate in the change of medical gases as required and log cylinder changes.
  • Support patient care, safety, and well-being through collaborative teamwork.
Key Skills / Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a porter in a healthcare setting, ideally within a theatre environment
  • Physical capability to lift and move heavy items as required
