Job summary

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking Orderlies to support the operating theatres and patient transport, ensuring high standards of cleanliness, safety and confidentiality throughout peri-operative care.

The role involves shift work, including weekends, with a focus on collaboration within the multidisciplinary team and adherence to Health & Safety standards while delivering compassionate care.

Qualifications

• GCSE standard or equivalent educational background.

Responsibilities

• Assist with transfer of patients between areas according to local policy.
• Help move and position patients for surgery or treatment.
• Clean and maintain theatre equipment and report faults.
• Prepare and position theatre furniture and lights for procedures.
• Demonstrate time management and prioritisation with support from a registered practitioner.
• Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team and relay messages promptly.
• Assist staff in delivering high-quality peri-operative care with attention to dignity, safety and confidentiality.

We pride ourselves on our inclusive and friendly approach to all new members of staff and we look forward to welcoming you to our team.Main duties of the job Please read the attached Job description & Person Specification for more details Successful candidates will work collaboratively as part of the multi-disciplinary team within the operating theatres to support the smooth running of operating theatres. All staff are required to maintain patient dignity and confidentiality at all times. The Orderly Team support the transportation of conscious/unconscious patients safely between all acute care areas; to and from any area of the hospital to the anaesthetic room, theatres or recovery room. In addition the Orderlies are responsible to ensure, all areas within the Operating Department are clean and tidy, daily cleaning is completed in each theatre and rotational deep cleaning is completed weekly. Orderlies are required to comply with Health & Safety Standards when, moving clinical equipment, handling medical gas cylinders and removing clinical waste, linen, and sharps bins within theatres., 1. To assist with the transfer of patients from the acute care area to the anaesthetic room/theatres/recovery room, including x-ray department on all hospital sites according to local policy 2. To assist with the moving and positioning of both conscious and unconscious patients in preparation for surgery and/or treatment, ensuring that any intravenous infusions, drains or catheters are appropriately positioned. 3. Clean and maintain specialised equipment, reporting any faults to the appropriate personnel. 4. To prepare and physically position theatre equipment, furniture and operating lights in readiness for surgery and/or treatment of patients. 5. To demonstrate skills of time management and prioritisation of workload with support from a registered practitioner. 6. Develop and utilise good communication skills. Relay messages to other members of the multi disciplinary team promptly and accurately. 7. Assist the trained staff in the delivery of high quality care to patients throughout their peri-operative experience, ensuring at all times that utmost regard is given to patient dignity, safety, values, individuality, religion and confidentiality. To be aware of and comply with the Data Protection Act 1998. Previous experience is healthcare is not essential, as a competency programme is provided along with an experienced mentor.,
