Job description

The Health Care Assistant is a member of the care team appointed to support the theatre team inthe delivery of patient care. The role involves contact on a physical and psychological level withpatients and theatre team. The post holder will undertake a range of activities under the supervision of aregistered nurse, having been assessed and deemed competent in the activities required.

Main duties of the job

As a Health Care Assistant in our theatre team you will support the registered nurses and operating department practitioners in implementing an agreed plan of care in association with the patient. You will provide support and assistance to qualified staff, assist with the transportation of patients, monitor and maintain stock and complete relevant documentation correctly.

The position of the Health Care Assistant is to ensure that the service users needs are met and to assist the team in maintaining high standards of care delivery. We are looking for candidates with a desire to provide compassionate support and care, good communication skills, a flexible approach and enthusiasm to work within the team.

Job responsibilities
  • Support the theatre team in implementation of an agreed plan of care with the patient and in accordance with instructionsand training received.
  • Help promote and maintain an environment conducive to meeting the needs of the patient and theatre team.
  • Contribute to a team approach to patient care in conjunction with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Contribute to the legality and accuracy of the patients care and or other reports and the effectiveness of the establishedcommunication /reporting system over the full 24hrs.
  • Participate in regular theatre meetings and attend other meetings as requested.
  • Undertake tasks and procedures, in which competency has been assessed and recorded specific to the theatre environment.
  • Provide support and assistance to registered staff.
  • All team members are responsible for behaving in a manner that does not put themselves, patients, visitors and other teammembers in danger or at risk in the clinical environment.
  • To assist in the maintenance of stock levels, including pharmaceutical products.
  • To assist in the maintenance of theatre cleanliness and tidiness and adhere to infection control policy and procedures at alltimes.
  • To assist and support registered nurses and clerical staff.
Person Specification
Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years working with a theatre setting as a healthcare assistant.
  • Previous experience of working with private healthcare.
