The post holder will be responsible for leading the clinical education, training and professional development of the theatre workforce, including registered staff, healthcare assistants, assistant practitioners and students. Ensuring that all staff are appropriately trained for the tasks that they undertake and that they are professionally supported to develop their own clinical practices.
The Theatre Education Team Leader will act as a supportive professional role model for nurses, operating department practitioner's (ODP's) and healthcare assistants providing education programmes, competency frameworks, preceptorship initiatives, and mandatory training.
This role combines clinical expertise, leadership, mentorship, and quality improvement, promoting collaborative working, continuous learning, and excellent patient outcomes across the theatre department.

As a Theatre Education Team Leader, you will provide effective clinical and operational leadership within the theatre department, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centred care. You will lead by example, supporting and motivating the multidisciplinary team while maintaining professional standards and promoting a positive working environment.
You will be responsible for coordinating daily clinical activities, responding appropriately to emergency situations, and ensuring that staffing, equipment, and resources are managed efficiently to meet the needs of the speciality.
The role includes supervising and developing staff through performance reviews, appraisals, mentorship, and competency assessments, while supporting education, induction, and professional development. You will encourage evidence-based practice, participate in audit and quality improvement projects, and contribute to the development of policies and clinical standards to enhance patient care.
You will also support incident reporting and risk management, participate in recruitment and selection processes, oversee the accurate use of clinical information systems, and act as the clinical coordinator when required to ensure the safe and effective running of the theatre service. Strong leadership, communication, organisational, and decision‑making skills are essential to drive continuous improvement and maintain excellence in perioperative care.
