Job description

As part of ALM Execution (ALME’s) active hedging mandate, ALME employs various interest rate swap strategies including outright, relative value, and cross-market trades to generate positive MTM. To scale up its trading strategies, the team is looking for someone who can create and develop systematic quantitative trading strategies in Python, building on previous successes.

Key Accountabilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the delivered risk from the business, including:

  1. Pricing swaps
  2. Generating risk (DV01) profiles
  3. Formulating hedges and execution strategies
  4. Executing hedges in the market

You will need to develop relationships with external counterparties for optimal pricing and market insights, as well as with ALM/BSM teams in Treasury to understand ongoing balance sheet and product dynamics.

While not initially required, the candidate will eventually suggest trade ideas to contribute to ALME’s P&L targets.

You will be responsible for creating and developing systematic quantitative trading strategies in Python. This role offers scope for developing a variety of trading strategies, making it suitable for someone interested in building trading models and applying theory practically.

You will also need to understand ALME’s P&L (in collaboration with Product Control), manage residual risk in Hedge Accounting, and provide market updates to Treasury and business teams.

Essential Skills/Qualifications
  • Undergraduate or equivalent degree in a quantitative subject (e.g., Mathematics, Econometrics, Quantitative Finance, Economics, Physics, Engineering)
  • Strong quantitative skills
  • Interest in macroeconomics and politics
  • Advanced skills in Excel/VBA and programming languages used in trading/data science (e.g., Python, R)

Assessment may include key skills like risk management, change management, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital skills, and technical expertise.

This role is a Certified role under PRA & UK FCA regulations and may require relevant regulatory qualifications.

Purpose of the Role

To buy and sell financial instruments (bonds, stocks, derivatives) to generate revenue through market analysis, trade execution, and risk management.

Accountabilities
  1. Developing and implementing trading strategies aligned with risk appetite, investment objectives, and market conditions.
  2. Executing trades while adhering to risk parameters.
  3. Maintaining accurate trading records and contributing to strategy evaluation.
  4. Monitoring global markets and economic indicators for opportunities and risks.
  5. Managing portfolio risk, including setting stop-loss limits and ensuring compliance.
  6. Raising unsecured funding in the International Money Market.
  7. Executing structural hedges for IRRBB hedging.
