Job summary

The Ministry of Justice invites applications for a permanent instructional post in the textiles garment manufacture workshop at HMP Isle of Wight. You will supervise prisoners, teach workshop skills and assess them toward nationally recognised qualifications, while maintaining security and control.

Working 37 hours a week, you will induct learners, train in health and safety and machinery use, manage schedules and targets, ensure quality, and contribute to training records and reports.

Qualifications

• Level 3 or equivalent in a textiles-related subject or prepared to work towards it.
• Experience in a production environment.
• Experience using industrial standard machinery and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise prisoners in the workshop, maintaining discipline, performance, motivation and development.
• Teach and assess prisoners towards national qualifications, tailoring learning to individual needs.
• Induct prisoners and train them in health and safety, COSHH, and machinery and tool use.
• Maintain security and control, including radio communications and tool checks.
• Set work schedules, manage targets and quality standards, and approve prisoner hours and wages.
• Quality‑assure output against product specifications.
