Testing & Commissioning Engineer

About the role

This role involves providing Testing and Commissioning services across multiple contracts in the water treatment industry, including both clean water and sewage treatment projects. You will handle pre-commissioning, inspections, and on-site commissioning of mechanical, electrical, control systems, and automated processes. The work is a mix of homeworking, site, and office-based, ideally located in Yorkshire, North West, or Midlands.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Producing commissioning documentation such as plans, sequences, and test records, and contributing to quality planning and ITPs.
  2. Reviewing and signing off RAMs and commissioning documentation.
  3. Updating project programmes and recording events requiring commercial support.
  4. Leading commissioning meetings with clients and subcontractors, and attending FAT, iFAT, and inspections.
  5. Coordinating H&S inspections and audits related to commissioning activities.
  6. Managing commissioning activities to maintain the programme while ensuring operational site functions.
  7. Leading worksite readiness reviews before starting commissioning activities.
  8. Collaborating with project, site, and operations managers to ensure activities align with QA/ITP and project timelines.

Candidate requirements

  • Proven experience in commissioning, especially in water treatment, water movement, and chemical dosing.
  • Hydraulic knowledge of water distribution, boosted systems, and pumped dosing systems.
  • Electrical fundamentals, fault-finding skills, and safety practices, with a relevant qualification for appointed persons.
  • Familiarity with control systems (PLC, MCC), valves, instrumentation, and ancillary equipment common on treatment sites.
  • Knowledge of DWI, WIMES, and WRAS standards.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project.
  • Willingness to stay away from home as required.
  • EUSR Water Hygiene certification.
  • CSCS Managers Card (Black/Silver or equivalent).
  • SMSTS or equivalent (e.g., IOSH Managing Safely).
