Job description

TXM Recruit are looking for a team of Test Technicians to join Hitachi Rail at their Newton Aycliffe Manufacturing Facility.

Contract currently to 1st March 2025 may be extended

Responsible for:

Undertake routine Test and Validation on Hitachi fleet trains. Working to strict health and safety guidelines and test processes to ensure all work is completed safely and delivery targets are achieved. To record and analyse test results and resolve any potential failures in order to exceed the customer’s quality expectations.

Main Responsibilities:

During project mobilisation:

  1. Support the engineers in developing test procedures using knowledge transfer, test specifications, engineering drawings, and manufacturing instructions.
  2. Support in implementation of newly developed procedures, including trialing procedures on early production vehicles, specifying tools/equipment, devising safe systems of work, and methods for collecting/recording test results.
  3. Receive training in test procedures and use of test equipment/tools/facilities, some of which may involve staying away from home.
  4. Support in training the wider test team in application of the newly developed test procedures and working methods.

Within Test and Validation:

  1. Carry out routine testing as per test procedures, ensuring timely delivery of trains as per the plan.
  2. Record and analyse test results, determine pass/fail, and act accordingly.
  3. Work with stakeholders in cross-functional team tasks.
  4. Undertake fault finding, repair, installation, and maintenance activities using appropriate technical information.
  5. Monitor and update the asset management system (e.g., SAP).
  6. Support train administration, access control, and safe system of work management.
  7. Assist in investigating failures and provide technical feedback to relevant stakeholders.
  8. Support continual improvement of testing processes and procedures.
  9. Follow tooling & equipment policies.
  10. Carry out train moves following procedures, including driving/shunting rail vehicles.
  11. Receive ongoing training and assessments to maintain competence.
  12. Work within the test competency model and support colleagues' development.
  13. Flexibility to work in various areas within the factory and off-site as needed.
  14. Adhere to all safety and housekeeping policies and promote Hitachi’s ethos and values.

Job Skills, Experience, and Qualifications:

Essential Requirements:

  • Strong health and safety ethos.

  • Ability to follow procedures meticulously.
  • Experience in testing and engineering.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9000 principles.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to interpret test results and conduct failure investigations.

  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Good literacy, numeracy, and IT skills.

Other Requirements:

  • Experience in an operational railway environment is advantageous.
  • Full UK driving license is advantageous.

Qualifications:

  • Educated to NVQ Level 3 in a relevant engineering discipline.

Hours:

Monday to Thursday, rotating pattern: 6am to 6pm (week 1), 6pm to 6am (week 2).

Hourly Rates (rates increase after 12 weeks with umbrella):

  • Standard days 6am - 6pm: £20.59 PAYE / £27.07 Umbrella
  • Nights 6pm - 6am: £26.77 PAYE / £35.17 Umbrella
  • Overtime (Monday to Saturday): £30.88 PAYE / £40.61 Umbrella
  • Sunday / Bank Holidays: £41.18 PAYE / £54.14 Umbrella
