Rate: £21.88ph via an Umbrella Company (Inside IR35) or £16.42ph PAYE

Job Description:

This role is key to enabling the laboratory and supports the Lead Engineer for the ongoing operation of the current and future Internal Combustion & Emissions laboratory capabilities. You will engage directly with our client's university academia and third-party engineering teams to support engine testing within new test cells.

Your fundamental role will be to support the supervised operations of test cells and prepare test samples, including installation and instrumentation of the unit under test. Collaboration with laboratory customers is essential.

This small team covers practical, technical, and facility operations. It offers a unique hands-on opportunity to build a team working with our client and third parties on the university campus.

You will be involved with the operation of two Multi Cycle Engine Test Dyno facilities but must be flexible to support various facilities as needed. The role initially follows a standard day shift pattern, transitioning to double day shifts within approximately two months as skills and system familiarity develop.

Skills:

• Preparation of units under test, with understanding of internal combustion systems (spark and compression ignition)
• Fabrication, welding, and basic machining (advantageous)
• Instrumentation installation, including thermocouples and pressure transducers
• Engine inspection, disassembly, and assembly skills
• Operation and support of engine test facilities under guidance
• Supporting engineers with technical test requirements and methodology development
• Operating facilities in compliance with H&S and ISO standards (16949, 14001)
• Knowledge transfer and training of team members
• Maintaining facilities, conducting user maintenance, and liaising with equipment suppliers

Education:

• City & Guilds Level 3 in a relevant discipline or a fully time-served apprenticeship
• Relevant experience supporting your application
