Job summary

Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains Ltd in the United Kingdom is offering a Test Apprentice role within the Test Department. You will learn and contribute to electrical and mechanical testing of components and full power units, from sub system parts to race-ready units, while supporting ISO compliant processes.

You will set up test facilities, run tests, calibrate test beds, review results, and liaise with Engineering to optimise product development.

Qualifications

• Complete or expect to achieve a Level 3 BTEC or equivalent by September 2027.
• GCSEs with Maths and English at grade 4 (C) or above.
• Experience or understanding of internal combustion engines and mechanical/electrical engineering basics.

Responsibilities

• Run tests on components, sub-assemblies and power units.

Job description

As a Test Apprentice, you will learn and be involved with every aspect of the Test Department covering electrical and mechanical testing from sub system components to full V6 power units across a variety of test types, for example pass offs to performance/development work for the future, all at the factory. You will be hands on with the products themselves and will lead the install, test and on test bed service work to ensure a high-quality test result all whilst adhering to ISO standards to enable us to be right first time for maximum efficiency with time and cost considered. All this combined will help us to continue to compete at the highest level to win championships. This role will cover support of Formula 1 and Advanced Technology projects.

We offer the opportunity to work and learn at the same time to achieve your Level 4 Advanced Apprenticeship standard, supporting you to attend college one day a week offsite at an external provider. All whilst working at a world class championship winning company.

By the end of your apprenticeship, you will have developed the knowledge and skills to:

• Set-up test facilities, for example dynamometers and rigs.
• Run tests on components, sub-assemblies, and complete power units.
• Calibrate and maintain the test beds to ensure reliable results to stay in line with ISO standards.
• Review test results to identify problems.
• Liaise with other departments (e.g. Engineering) to ensure the development of the product is optimised.
• Adhere to, create, and maintain standard operating procedures for testing processes and other operations whilst staying in line with ISO standard 9001.
• Contribute to continuous improvement activities of our test facilities, the power unit, and your own personal skills.

What do we need from you?

• Tenacious, curious, and driven individuals who thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• For you to have completed (or be expecting to achieve by September 2027) a Level 3 BTEC or equivalent diploma.
• For you to have achieved GCSE’s at grades equivalent to a C or above (4 - 9) in Maths and English Language.
• You should demonstrate any practical experience of working with internal combustion engines, mechanical assemblies including an understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering principles.
• The ability to demonstrate enthusiasm, accountability, and initiative, along with taking a pride in the quality of work you produce.
• A willingness to go the extra mile to help the team succeed.
