Job summary

TXM Recruit is seeking a Test Technician on a contract basis for a rail client in Milton Keynes. You will perform functional testing and commissioning on EMU/DMU and other rolling stock, using fault-finding techniques to diagnose issues to a defined standard.

Working in a safety-critical environment, you will read schematics, process diagnostic data, and potentially deputise for the test team leader. A time-served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 and PT Safety/First Aid training are expected.

Qualifications

• Equivalent GCSEs: Maths and English (C or above).
• Time served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 or higher.
• Competent in electric/mechanical fault-finding techniques.
• Knowledge of railway vehicle electrical/mechanical systems.
• Able to fault find complex circuits and systems.
• Experience in safety critical environments.
• Computer literate; MS Office knowledge.
• Personal Track Safety trained - Mandatory training requirement.
• First aider trained - Mandatory training requirement.
• Strong understanding of 5s and safety/quality emphasis.

Responsibilities

• Work as directed by your line manager.
• Read schematic drawings.
• Investigate rolling stock faults with minimal supervision.
• Assist the engineering process where necessary.
• Work within a high voltage environment.
• Download and process train diagnostic data.
• Undertake fault finding to an advanced level.
• Test all types of on-train systems.
• Produce complex, analytical technical reports on fault investigation.
• Specialise in areas of technical expertise.
• Deputise for test team leader if required.
• Keep test paperwork up to date, including test sheets and fault logs.
• Liaise with production departments when necessary.
• Attend off site railway depots to support our customers' requirements.
• From time to time may be asked to carry out other reasonable tasks as directed by the line manager.

TXM Recruit are currently looking to put a team of Test Technicians together on a contract basis for a rail client in Milton Keynes. The team will be performing test and commissioning on various fleets of rolling stock vehicles.

Test Technician

General Description

Skilled work within a safety critical role which demands a standard of competence necessitating either an apprenticeship to a trade or recognised training programme where an employee is required to be fully qualified in all parts of the trade and capable of producing work to the required standards, specification or finish expected of a Test Technician. To perform defined tasks to written instructions and to be able to work to their own initiative to enable the Depot to provide a quality service to the business. Carry out functional testing and commissioning of EMU/DMU and other rolling stock types of post works to a defined and written standard in line with UK rail safety regulations. Lead fault identification and rectification using recognised fault-finding techniques.

Education Requirements/Person Specification

• Equivalent to GCSE C and above in Maths and English.
• Time served apprenticeship or equivalent NVQ Level 3 or higher
• Competent and trained in electric/mechanical fault-finding techniques
• Detailed knowledge of railway vehicle electrical/mechanical systems and components
• Has the ability to fault find complex circuits and systems to an advanced level.
• Has a proven track record of working within a safety critical environment
• Computer literate and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Personal Track Safety trained - Mandatory training requirement
• First aider trained - Mandatory training requirement
• Have a strong understanding of 5s
• Awareness of the importance of Safety and Quality
