Job summary

TXM Recruit is seeking Test Technicians on a contract basis in Milton Keynes to perform functional testing and commissioning on rolling stock fleets. You will lead fault identification and produce analytical fault reports in a safety critical environment.

Role requires apprenticeship/NVQ Level 3 or higher, GCSEs in Maths/English, and strong fault-finding skills across electrical/mechanical systems. Prior PT Safety and First Aid training are mandatory.

Qualifications

  • GCSE Maths and English at least grade C or above.
  • Time served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 or higher.
  • Competent fault-finding techniques.
  • Knowledge of railway electrical/mechanical systems.
  • Able to fault find complex circuits to advanced level.
  • Experience in safety-critical environments.
  • Computer literate; MS Office.
  • Personal Track Safety training (mandatory).
  • First aid training (mandatory).
  • Awareness of 5S and safety/quality importance.

Responsibilities

  • Work as directed by line manager and assist engineering.
  • Read schematic drawings and anticipate faults.
  • Investigate rolling stock faults with minimal supervision.
  • Read test sheets and keep fault logs up to date.
  • Work in a high voltage environment.
  • Download and process diagnostic data.
  • Carry out fault finding to an advanced level.
  • Test all on-train systems and report results.
  • Prepare complex analytical fault reports.
  • May deputise for test team leader when required.
  • Attend off-site depots to support customers.

Job description

TXM Recruit are currently looking to put a team of Test Technicians together on a contract basis for a rail client in Milton Keynes. The team will be performing test and commissioning on various fleets of rolling stock vehicles.

General Description

Skilled work within a safety critical role which demands a standard of competence necessitating either an apprenticeship to a trade or recognised training programme where an employee is required to be fully qualified in all parts of the trade and capable of producing work to the required standards, specification or finish expected of a Test Technician.

To perform defined tasks to written instructions and to be able to work to their own initiative to enable the Depot to provide a quality service to the business.

Carry out functional testing and commissioning of EMU/DMU and other rolling stock types of post works to a defined and written standard in line with UK rail safety regulations.

Lead fault identification and rectification using recognised fault-finding techniques.

Responsibilities
  • Work as directed by your line manager
  • Read schematic drawings
  • With minimal supervision investigate rolling stock faults found within the test process
  • Assist the engineering process where necessary
  • Work within a high voltage environment
  • Download and process train diagnostic data.
  • Undertake fault finding to an advanced level
  • Test all types of on train systems
  • Produce complex, analytical technical reports on fault investigation
  • Specialise in areas of technical expertise
  • If required deputise for test team leader
  • Keep test paperwork up to date, including test sheets and fault logs
  • Liaise with production departments when necessary
  • Attend off site railway depots to support our customers requirement
  • From time to time may be asked to carry out other reasonable tasks as directed by the line manager.
Education Requirements/Person Specification
  • Equivalent to GCSE C and above in Maths and English.
  • Time served apprenticeship or equivalent NVQ Level 3 or higher
  • Competent and trained in electric/mechanical fault-finding techniques
  • Detailed knowledge of railway vehicle electrical/mechanical systems and components
  • Has the ability to fault find complex circuits and systems to an advanced level.
  • Has a proven track record of working within a safety critical environment
  • Computer literate and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Personal Track Safety trained - Mandatory training requirement
  • First aider trained – Mandatory training requirement
  • Have a strong understanding of 5s
  • Awareness of the importance of Safety and Quality
