Job description

Job Description

Test Facility Engineer

Full-time

Bristol

Help deliver the next generation of defence propulsion through safe, effective and innovative testing. As a Test Facility Engineer, you will plan and execute verification and validation activities across our Bristol test facilities, working with test rigs for both small and large engines. You will operate at the centre of product testing, prototype development and test-equipment delivery, turning programme requirements into safe, executable test campaigns and high-quality engineering data.

Why Rolls-Royce?

Rolls-Royce is one of the most enduring and iconic brands in the world and has been at the forefront of innovation for over a century. We design, build and service systems that provide critical power to customers where safety and reliability are paramount.

We are proud to be a force for progress, powering, protecting and connecting people everywhere. We want to ensure that the excellence and ingenuity that has shaped our history continues into our future, and we need people like you to come and join us on this journey.

This role sits within our Defence business, where robust test facilities and rigorous verification and validation are essential to delivering safe, reliable and world-class aerospace solutions.

We'll provide an environment of caring and belonging where you can be yourself. An inclusive, innovative culture that invests in you gives you access to an incredible breadth and depth of opportunities where you can grow your career and make a difference.

You will work across the test lifecycle, from understanding the experimental requirement and developing test equipment through to engine build, test execution, strip and delivery of validated data. You will collaborate with programme teams, designers, test specialists, technicians and suppliers, gaining exposure to a broad range of propulsion products, facilities and technologies.

What we offer

We offer excellent development opportunities, a competitive salary and exceptional benefits. These include bonus, employee support assistance and employee discounts.

Your needs are as unique as you are. This is a facility-based role because regular on-site presence is required to support test-rig and engine activities in Bristol. Any flexibility in working arrangements will be locally managed according to programme and operational requirements.

What you will be doing

With this attractive opportunity, you will get a chance to:

  • Own and deliver verification and validation activities across product, system, component and installed testing, translating experimental requirements into practical schedules, test instructions, build plans and strip plans.

  • Support the safe operation of test rigs and facilities for small and large gas turbine engines, coordinating test-article build, instrumentation, test execution, inspection and post-test strip activities.

  • Develop, specify and introduce test equipment, tooling and facility solutions for product testing and prototype development, working with multidisciplinary teams and suppliers to improve capability, reliability and repeatability.

  • Lead the safety and risk-management aspects of the test solution, ensuring hazards are controlled, gated reviews are completed and activities are authorised and executed in accordance with health, safety and environmental requirements.

  • Monitor test progress, remove technical and schedule barriers, lead or support troubleshooting and ensure complete, traceable and validated test data is delivered to programme and engineering teams.

Who we're looking for

At Rolls-Royce we put safety first, do the right thing, keep it simple and make a difference. These principles form the behaviours that guide us and are an essential component of our assessment process. They are the fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.

To be successful in this role you will need to:

  • Hold a degree, Higher National qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant engineering discipline.

  • Have experience in a test-facility, laboratory, manufacturing or similarly safety-critical engineering environment, with the ability to interpret engineering requirements and plan and execute practical test activities.

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of engineering safety, risk assessment and safe systems of work, together with practical troubleshooting capability across mechanical, electrical, instrumentation or control-system interfaces.

  • Communicate clearly and work effectively with technicians, engineers, programme teams and suppliers, while managing priorities and delivering work to time, cost and quality expectations.

  • Be eligible to obtain Security Check clearance. Applicants will normally need to be a UK national or, in Ministry of Defence-approved cases, a dual national.

Experience of gas turbine engines, data-acquisition systems, instrumentation, test-rig operation, test-equipment development or prototype testing would be advantageous, but not essential.

We are an equal opportunities employer. We're committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment. We believe that people from different backgrounds and cultures give us different perspectives which are crucial to innovation and problem solving. We believe the more diverse perspectives we have, the more successful we'll be. By building a culture of caring and belonging, we give everyone who works here the opportunity to realise their full potential.

We welcome applications from people with a refugee background.

You can learn more about our global Inclusion strategy at Our people | Rolls-Royce.

To work for the Rolls-Royce Defence business, an individual has to hold Security Check clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you do not currently have this in place. Due to the nature of the work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets, we can only progress applications from individuals who are a UK national or, in Ministry of Defence-approved cases, a dual national.

As part of our selection process, candidates in certain locations may be asked to complete an online assessment, which can include cognitive and behavioural aptitude testing relevant to the role. If required, full instructions for the next steps will be provided.
