We’d all like amazing work to do, and real work-life balance. That’s waiting for you at Sainsbury’s. Think about the scale it takes for us to feed the nation. The level of data, transactions and variety it involves. Then you’ll realise that ours is a modern software engineering environment because it has to be. We’ve made serious investment into a Tech Academy and into setting standards and principles. We iterate, learn, experiment and push ways of working such as Agile, Scrum and XP. So you can look forward to awesome opportunities in everything from AI to reusable tech.

Sainsburys Tech - Test Engineer

Why join us

Joining our team at Sainsbury's means being a part of an exceptionally dynamic and multi-faceted organisation that serves millions of customers daily. With the UK's largest loyalty scheme and cutting-edge digital platforms, we handle an astonishing 1.2 billion transactions each year, offering a vast and intricate dataset that few can match. As an Engineer (Test), You’ll be part of a collaborative and forward-thinking engineering team, helping shape the quality of products that power Nectar’s Digital AdTech Marketing Services for leading B2B clients. We value curiosity, quality and collaboration — and support your growth in a healthy, balanced work environment.

About The Role

We are looking for a proactive and skilled Test Engineer to join our Media Agency engineering team. You’ll be working on the Digital TradingPlatform — a web application that powers marketing activations for Nectar’s B2B customers across major digital channels, including Meta, Google, YouTube, The Trade Desk and more. This platform is the home for teams exploring Nectar data and how it fuels the Media Agency products we offer through our Digital AdTech Marketing Services (DTP). As a Test Engineer, you will help ensure these products are reliable, high quality, and deliver value to our business partners.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and execute functional, integration, regression and performance tests for the Campaign Management platform.

Identify and raise clear, detailed defect reports and collaborate on fixes, prioritising by business impact.

Build and maintain automated tests using frameworks such as Cypress or Playwright.

Take ownership of quality throughout the development lifecycle, identifying risks early and driving solutions.

Continuously improve testing processes to reduce defect leakage and improve release confidence.

Work closely with engineers, product owners and cross-functional teams to ensure shared understanding of requirements.

Share test results, risks and quality insights clearly with stakeholders.

What You’ll Need

Experience in manual testing and a strong interest in test automation.

Hands-on experience with JavaScript testing frameworks (Cypress, Selenium, Percy, Playwright, etc.).

Knowledge of API testing and defect lifecycle management.

Ability to write clear, structured test cases from user stories and acceptance criteria.

Experience working in agile teams, especially Scrum.

Strong collaboration and communication skills.

A proactive, curious and self-motivated approach.

Nice to Have

Experience with GitHub CI/CD pipelines, Jira and Confluence.

Familiarity with React, Java or Kotlin-based testing.

Experience working on AdTech, digital marketing or data-driven web applications.

Benefits

We are committed to being a truly inclusive retailer, so you’ll be welcomed whoever you are and wherever you work. Around here, there’s always the chance to try something new - whether that’s as part of an evolving team or somewhere else across the business - and we take development seriously and promise to support you. We also recognise and celebrate colleagues when they go the extra mile and, where possible, offer flexible working. When you join our team, we’ll also offer you an amazing range of benefits. Here are some of them:

Starting off with colleague discount, you'll be able to get 10% off at Sainsbury's, Argos, TU and Habitat after 4 weeks. This increases to 15% off at Sainsbury’s every Friday and Saturday and 15% off at Argos every pay day. We've also got you covered for your future with our pensions scheme and life cover. You'll also be able to share in our success as you may be eligible for a performance-related bonus of up to 10% of salary, depending on how we perform.

Your wellbeing is important to us too. You'll receive an annual holiday allowance, and you can buy additional holiday. We also offer other benefits that will help your money go further such as season ticket loans, cycle to work scheme, health cash plans, pay advance (where you can access some of your pay before pay day) as well access to a great range of discounts from hundreds of other retailers. And if you ever need it there is also an employee assistance programme.

Moments that matter are as important to us as they are to you which is why we give up to 26 weeks’ pay for maternity or adoption leave and up to 4 weeks’ pay for paternity leave.
