Job summary

Cosmic Equipment UK is seeking a Test Engineer to verify and validate products for quality conformance. The role covers bench, module and system testing across Mostrak and M2 ranges, with calibration of precision equipment and fault-finding at PCB level.

You will manage each system as a mini-project, maintain documentation, and collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing and Customer Support to ensure timely delivery and product reliability.

Job title - Test Engineer

About the role:

The Test Engineer is responsible for ensuring that products shipped by Cosmic Equipment UK are tested in accordance with the relevant test specifications and quality requirements. The role performs bench, module and system testing across the Mostrak and M2 product ranges, together with calibration of precision equipment in line with approved procedures.

The role also undertakes fault-finding and rework of printed circuit boards at component level, using schematics and appropriate test equipment to identify, investigate and resolve faults. Each system is managed as a mini-project, with ownership of the associated documentation, workload and delivery deadline.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform consistent verification and validation routines for company products in accordance with relevant test specifications and procedures.
  • Carry out bench, module and system testing across Mostrak and M2 products.
  • Test and assess customer returns, identifying faults and confirming effective resolution.
  • Perform calibrations on precision equipment in accordance with approved calibration procedures.
  • Investigate and correct malfunctions identified during testing.
  • Carry out component-level fault-finding and rework on traditional and surface-mount printed circuit boards.
  • Read and interpret circuit diagrams and schematics to identify relevant components and sections of a circuit.
  • Maintain accurate test records, system paperwork and supporting documentation.
  • Manage each system as a mini-project, organising priorities and workload to meet agreed deadlines.
  • Provide clear feedback and improvement suggestions to Engineering to support product quality and reliability.
  • Develop and improve test methods to increase the efficiency, consistency and effectiveness of the test process.
  • Work collaboratively with Engineering, Manufacturing and Customer Support to resolve product and test issues.
  • Contribute to a safe working environment and comply with company health and safety requirements.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties and responsibilities as required by management.

Technical
  • Component-level repair skills for traditional through-hole and surface-mount devices.
  • Ability to fault-find complex electronic circuits to component level using circuit diagrams and appropriate test equipment.
  • Working knowledge of electronic components, including operational amplifiers, diodes and transistors.
  • Ability to perform bench, module and system testing in a structured and repeatable manner.
  • Ability to interpret test specifications, procedures, schematics and technical documentation.
  • Accurate completion and control of test, calibration and system records.

Experience:
Essential
  • Practical experience of electronic testing, fault-finding or repair within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience of reading circuit diagrams and identifying components and functional areas within electronic circuits.
  • Experience of maintaining accurate technical records and following defined procedures.
Preferred
  • Experience in a similar Test Engineer or electronics test role.
  • Experience of component-level repairs on both traditional and surface-mount printed circuit boards.
  • Experience of bench, module or system testing, calibration activities or customer-return investigations.
  • Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Electronics, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
