Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on leadership and guidance to electrical team members during daily operations on the shop floor.
  • Lead daily morning electrical briefings to communicate priorities.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the electrical team.
  • Demonstrate strong fault-finding skills and resolve electrical issues.
  • Support capacity and resource planning to ensure project timelines.
  • Oversee and support vehicle movements using depot shunters safely.
  • Monitor materials and stock levels to avoid delays.
  • Provide expert test & electrical input to the Bids Team.

Job description

Overview:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Test & Electrical Team Leader to join the Production team at a fast paced growing Rail service organisation. This position is well-suited to an individual seeking to progress their career by combining hands-on engineering expertise with team leadership and coordination responsibilities.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Production Manager to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of testing and electrical activities. This is a hybrid role, with responsibilities split approximately 50/50 between practical, on-the-tools work and leadership, planning, and team coordination duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership & Shop Floor Support:

    • Provide hands-on leadership and guidance to electrical team members during daily operations on the shop floor.

    • Lead daily morning electrical briefings using the whiteboard to communicate priorities and facilitate end-of-day wash-up meetings to review progress and address any issues.

    • Serve as the primary point of contact for the electrical team, ensuring all tasks are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with quality standards.

    • Demonstrate strong fault-finding skills and effectively resolve electrical issues across a host of various locomotive platforms.

    • Proactively identify operational challenges and escalate concerns to the Production Manager when necessary.

  • Planning & Communication:

    • Support capacity and resource planning to ensure project timelines are met.

    • Ensure the mechanical team is fully briefed on ongoing and upcoming workstreams.

    • Attend daily production meetings and report on department progress and issues.

  • Vehicle Movements:

    • Oversee and support the coordination of vehicle movements using the depot shunters safely and efficiently.

  • Materials, Tooling & Documentation:

    • Monitor materials within the department and monitor stock levels to avoid delays.

    • Ensure all block card paperwork is accurately completed and signed off.

    • Ensure all tooling within the department is fit for purpose, correctly maintained, and within calibration (if applicable).

  • Project Support:

    • Identify AAW (Arising Additional Work) and report findings to the Project Manager.

    • Provide expert test & electrical input to the Bids Team for pricing and planning of new opportunities.

Candidate Requirements:

Essential:

  • Level III qualification or equivalent in an electrical discipline.

  • Strong electrical engineering background with hands-on experience.

  • Well experienced in electrical testing, fault diagnostics and rectification.

  • Good communication and leadership skills, with a proactive attitude to team support.

  • Strong awareness of H&S and quality standards.

  • Organised, reliable, and confident managing materials, tools, and paperwork.
