Job Summary

We are seeking a Test Development Engineer to join our team. You will collaborate closely with hardware and software development teams to develop and maintain test systems supporting preproduction testing. Reporting to the Hardware Test Team Lead, you will be embedded within the Hardware team. We value collaborative and proactive work, ownership of tasks, and developing test solutions that meet requirements. Academic qualifications or specific experience are less important than the right characteristics and team fit.

The role involves working with other teams within Graphcore and external support engineers to ensure effective communication and contribute to the Hardware Team’s success.

The Team

The Hardware Test Team is part of the larger Hardware team, which includes Signal Integrity, Mechanical, Layout, Package, and Hardware Engineers. This team is responsible for delivering state-of-the-art accelerators for machine learning, collaborating with Silicon, Firmware, and Production teams during product development.

Responsibilities and Duties

The successful candidate will define test methods, specify test equipment, and automate test systems. Responsibilities include testing, debugging, and characterizing high-speed serial links, power supplies capable of high current and fast transients, and debugging slower protocols like JTAG, I2C, and I3C, as well as low-level PCBA debugging.

Understanding Graphcore hardware and software in a test environment is essential. You should be familiar with industry performance test standards, data analysis, and presentation systems. Your contributions will span multiple areas, including:

  • Manual testing and debugging of complex high-speed SERDES, PCIe Gen 6, and 112/224Gb PAM4 Ethernet, using high-bandwidth oscilloscopes, BERTs, and VNAs, with knowledge of IEEE standards.
  • Designing and developing GUIs for product testing.
  • Developing test systems for Graphcore’s Machine Learning Accelerators at system and board levels.
  • Transferring preproduction test system knowledge to the production team.
  • Test coverage analysis and improvements.
  • Maintaining and developing characterization systems.
  • Automating tests using Python or LabView.
Candidate Profile
  • Experience with Ethernet and/or PCIe interfaces.
  • Project planning skills.
  • Experience in developing and automating test systems for complex electronics.
  • Proficiency in test scripting languages, including Python and LabView.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of LPDDR, HBM interfaces.
  • Experience with high-current power supplies and fast transients.
  • Knowledge of Linux and Bash scripting.
  • Previous experience in server verification.
  • Understanding of PCBA production test methods such as ICT and SLT.
  • Data analysis experience.

We offer a competitive salary, flexible working, generous leave, private medical insurance, health cash plan, dental plan, pension (up to 5%), life assurance, income protection, parental leave, and support programs.
